Yankee opening night is in the books

FARLEY, Iowa (Aug. 31) – The 40th annual Yankee Dirt Track Classic got underway on Thursday with qualifying in both the IMCA Modified and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod divisions.

Both divisions qualified 12 cars for their big Saturday night Yankee championship features.  A dozen more cars in each division will earn a starting spot through last-chance races early Saturday.

Friday racing will start at 6:30 p.m. and features Deery Brothers Summer Series IMCA Late Models and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars.

Saturday’s start time has been moved up to 5:30 p.m. and will kick off with last-chance races, followed by opening ceremonies and all big features, including the 100-lap, $10,000 to win Yankee Dirt Track Classic for the Deery Series, which is expected to take to the track at 9 p.m.

2nd heat – 1. Justin Kay, Wheatland; 2. Kelly Shryock, Fertile.

3rd heat – 1. Travis Denning, Sterling, Ill.; 2. Mark Schulte, Delhi.

4th heat – 1. Tyler Madigan, Peosta; 2. Jeff Larson, Freeport, Ill.

1st consolation – 1. Jeff Aikey, Cedar Falls; 2. Scott Riechers, Belmont, Wis.

2nd consolation – 1. Chris Simpson, Oxford; 2. Milo Veloz, Colona, Ill.

Northern SportMods

1st heat – 1. Troy Bauer, Dubuque; 2. Jaden Fryer, Freeport, Ill.; 3. Justin Becker, Bernard.

2nd heat – 1. Rusty DeShaw, Farley; 2. Cory Van Zante, Sully; 3. Travis Fecht, Potosi, Wis.

3rd heat – 1. Richard Nelson, Punta Gorda, Fla.; 2. Austin Heacock, Centralia; 3. Trent Wyssbrod, Monroe, Wis.
