WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (Aug. 13) – Saturday night’s racing action at West Liberty Raceway featured Fan Appreciation Night along with Kids’ Back To School Night. The huge crowd was treated to a great night of racing and the kids received Back To School Supplies and also had a $1,355 nickel scramble.
Despite nearly seven inches of rain the last couple of days in the West Liberty area, the crew was able to provide the drivers with a great track and the drivers responded with providing an exciting night of wheel to wheel racing in all classes.
The Performance Concepts IMCA Modifieds were the headline division with 24 cars in attendance. Jerry Luloff scored his second win of 2016 in topping a very strong field. Luloff advanced from his third row start and took the lead on lap eight en route to the win. Kurt Kile advanced from a sixth row start to finish second at the finish line ahead of Chris Zogg.
The 25 lap iWireless IMCA Late Model feature belonged to Rob Moss. He shot out front at the drop of the green flag from his outside front row start and went on to record the win. Chad Holladay was second and 45-year racing veteran Ron Boyse rounded out the top three.
Dalton Simonsen came from deep in the pack to score another Weikert Iron & Metal IMCA Northern SportMod feature win. Cory VanZante took second at the stripe ahead of Dave Wada.
David Brandies took another comfortable win in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division. Brandies broke out of the pack early and went on to score an easy win over Johnny Spaw and Todd Reitzler.
The US 6 Bodyworks IMCA Sport Compact win went to Steve Struck. The 10-lap feature saw Struck come from a fourth row start and shoot into the lead on lap 3 en route to the win.
