DUBUQUE, Iowa (June 26) – Sunday night’s racing action at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway featured plenty of wheel-to-wheel excitement right down to the checkered flag in all four divisions.
The headliner of the night was the 25-lap feature for the Out Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Models. The final two laps saw the lead swapped four times between Luke Goedert and Joel Callahan.
The final lap saw the leaders battling each other as they encountered lapped traffic. Goedert was able to stick his no. 44 Late Model to the bottom and come to the checkers with a car length win over Callahan. Dan Shelliam joined the lead pack late in the race and settled for a very close third place finish.
The Merfeld Brothers IMCA Modified feature saw Monroe, Wis., driver Derrick Thompson score his first-ever Dubuque Speedway win. Thompson found the high side of the smooth track to his liking as he rode the extreme high line to the win over Ryan DeShaw and Matt Gansen.
The GSI Collision Specialists IMCA Northern SportMod feature saw Troy Bauer charge to the front from a 7th position start and go on to win the 15-lap main event. Bauer took the checkers ahead of Mitch Manternach and Mark Maas.
The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature was not decided until the last lap as Tim Schneider made a late charge to score the win ahead of Tim Helle. Jason Brimeyer crossed the finish line in third.
On Sunday, July 3, Dubuque Speedway will host the Ideal Ready Mix Tri-Track Challenge featuring a 50-lap Out Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Model main which will award $2,000 to the winner. All other weekly classes will also be racing. Hot laps get underway at 6 p.m.
