Las Vegas rolls out red carpet for Duel In The Desert

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The biggest IMCA event of the season west of the Mississippi is on the sched­ule Nov. 11-14 when Las Vegas Motor Speedway hosts the 18th annual Duel In The Desert.

Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds run for $7,777 to win and a minimum of $777 to start their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying main event Saturday night on the half-mile Dirt Track. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods chase a $1,777 top check that evening.

Modified qualifying features pay $777 to win and SportMod qualifiers pay $500 to win on Thurs­day and Friday.

“A Duel record 330 drivers competed at Las Vegas last year and it appears we’ll be at or above that number in 2015,” said IMCA President Brett Root. “The locale, the venue, the racing and the purse all combine to make the Duel In The Desert the largest IMCA event on the West Coast.”

In addition to Nevada, Modified pre-entries have already been received from drivers who will travel from Alberta, Arizona, Arkansas, British Columbia, California, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Kan­sas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Northern SportMod entries are in hand from Alberta, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Early entry fees of $200 for Modifieds and $150 for Northern SportMods must be paid by Nov. 3. Entry fees after that date are $250 for the Modifieds and $200 for SportMods.

Weekend pit passes are $100. Pit spots in the first three rows must be reserved; all other pit area parking is free.

Pit parking for pre-registered drivers is from noon-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10. Pit gates open again for all drivers at 9 a.m. the next morning and practice begins at 4 p.m. and continues until 9 p.m.

Heat races, “B” features and qualifying features are on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 12 and 13 cards.

Last-chance races and both Modified Young Guns and Legends features precede Saturday’s main events. The SportMod feature is 25 laps and the Modified feature is 40 laps.

Tech inspection begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday, at 8 a.m. Thursday and at noon Friday and Satur­day.

Grandstand admission on Thursday is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and military personnel and $6 for kids ages 6-12. Friday and Saturday admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and military and $8 for kids.
