September Fest IMCA Modified wins go to Grabouski, Smith

BEATRICE, Neb. (Sept. 25-26) – Another Friday feature brought out the best in Jordan Grabouski while Dylan Smith was best in the Saturday September Fest show at Beatrice Speedway.

Grabouski topped the opening night feature for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, earning his eighth win this season at Beatrice, while Smith prevailed in a Saturday show that ran green to checkered.

Both Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events paid $1,500 to win.

Also first on Friday at September Fest last year, Grabouski drew the pole and led all 30 laps. Hunter Marriott, Justin Zeitner, Smith and Chad Andersen rounded out the top five.

“Hunter got alongside me on a couple restarts and that made it interesting,” Grabouski said. “The last caution came with about six to go and I finally got a couple car lengths on him.”

Smith wasted little time in racing from fourth starting to the lead on Saturday and stuck to the lower side of the track in winning the caution-free contest.

“The car was really good,” he said. “I had some trouble passing lapped cars and things got a little iffy for a bit but everything worked out.”

Chris Abelson raced from 12th to second, Marriott, Travis Hatcher and Jesse Dennis were scored next. Grabouski got $1,000 to start last in the field of 24 and ended in eighth.

Kyle Vanover repeated his 2014 sweep in winning both IMCA Sunoco Stock Car features and $500 each night.

Chris Ullrich and Dustin Schmidt were 2-3 on Friday and 3-2 on Saturday.

Tyler Frye was also a double winner in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. His charge to the $500 checkers on night two came all the way from 18th starting.

Greg Metz was second and Kyle Prauner third on Friday. Lance Borgman and Roger Sluka completed Saturday’s top three.

Three hundred dollar IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock winners were Adam Armstrong on Friday and Roy Armstrong on Saturday.

Second went to Roy Armstrong and third to Russ Specht on Friday. Jesse VanLaningham and TeJay Mielke were next across the stripe on Saturday.

Scott Spellmeier earned $200 for his Saturday Mach-1 Sport Compact win. Runner-up Ramsey Meyer was second and 20th starting Dillon Richards took third.
