MAQUOKETA, Iowa – IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks are new this season at Jackson County Speedway, joining three other sanctioned divisions on regular Saturday night race programs.
The division replaces a local hobby class that ran with different motor, tire and wheel options.
“We had been looking at the IMCA Hobby Stocks because of cost and car counts,” explained Ryan Duhme, co-promoter at Maquoketa with Tim Current. “After Farley sanctioned in 2011 and Dubuque sanctioned in 2012, we told our drivers we would phase them in and go with IMCA this season.”
“Hobby Stocks are supposed to be an economical, entry-level class and we want to help out people who want to get started racing,” he added. “Any Hobby Stock driver who pays a one-time $40 registration fee will get a free pit pass for their use every night they race with us during the point season.”
Opening night at Jackson County is April 25. The IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly point season continues through Aug. 29.
IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified, IMCA Late Model and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod divisions all return to Jackson County. Modified points figure toward Belleville Motorsports North Central Region standings.
Duhme and Current are partners in Darkside Promotions, which has overseen racing at Maquoketa since 2012.
Also new this season at the ¼-mile dirt venue will be a two-seat Late Model for fan experience rides.
One such ride will be raffled off for the Donna Heister Make A Wish memorial event, tentatively scheduled for July 11.
