Asbe earns first career feature win at I-35

MASON CITY, Iowa (July 20) – Sunday was a night to remember for Jason Asbe as he captured his first-ever feature win in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock division at I-35 Speedway.

Not only had Asbe not finished in the top four in a feature this year, his best finish this summer was 11th and last week, he rolled his No. 9 car at the track.

On Sunday, however, with duct tape holding his hood down and hardly a sponsor dotting his rig, he pulled his car into victory lane after the win.

It was also a memorable weekend for Kyle Germundson. The Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod driver got married Saturday night and reversed his racing fortune by winning his first feature of the season at I-35 on Sunday.

Last week, Germundson was in control of the feature and looking for a victory before a late caution flag changed things. One week later, he was not to be denied after starting on the outside of the front row.

The IMCA Late Models made their third appearance of the season at I-35 and hard charger Ryan Griffith took the win after starting outside of the fifth row.

For the third straight week, Josh Ruby was the winner of the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature.

After not winning a feature win all summer, Larry Portis followed up Friday’s victory at Hancock County Speedway with the checkers at I-35 on Sunday.

Terry Blowers picked up his second local Mach-1 Sport Compact victory of the season.
