Busy month of July rolls along at Independence Motor Speedway

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – Double features during weekly racing and two mid-week specials highlight action the next two weeks at Independence Motor Speedway.

IMCA weekly racing is next up this Saturday, July 12, when three make-up features will be added to the program for the eighth annual Dick Frye Memorial.

Budweiser Mid-Season Championship Night was cut short due to rain June 28 after qualifying was completed. With two features already made up July 5, the three remaining events will be held July 12.

Make-up features for the IMCA Late Models, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks will take place this Saturday prior to a complete program for all five weekly divisions, including the Late Models, SportMods and Hobby Stocks, along with the Performance Bodies IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars.

The event will also serve as the Saturday Showcase for the Hobby Stock division. Drivers competing in the regularly scheduled Hobby Stock portion of the July 12 program will vie for increased prize money. The 15-lap feature will pay $300 to win.

The Showcase Saturday for IMCA Hobby Stocks is a weekly points race for the division and will feature normal qualifying procedures.

Buy-ins will not be permitted for the July 12 make-up features.

Grandstand admission is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. Kids 11 and under will be admitted free if accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $25.

Gates open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 6 and racing to follow.

Next Wednesday, July 16, racing action will kick off the 2014 Buchanan County Fair. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Micro Mods will compete in the mid-week special.

Both the Stock Cars and SportMods will compete for $500 to win, while the Hobby Stock winner will take home $400 in the draw/redraw special. Those three divisions will be IMCA sanctioned, however track points will not be awarded.

Gates open at 5 p.m. July 16, with hot laps at 7 and racing to follow.

Grandstand admission is $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Kids 11 and under will be admitted free if accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $25.

There will be no racing Saturday, July 19 during the Buchanan County Fair. Country music star Chris Cagle will be performing live at the fairgrounds that evening.

The World of Outlaws Late Model Series returns for its fourth consecutive year on Thursday, July 2, and will be accompanied for the second straight year by the XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds.

Grandstand admission for that event is $30. Ages 11 and under will be admitted free if accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $35. IMCA Modified drivers competing will not be charged for a pit pass July 24.

Gates will open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6:45 and Late Model qualifying to follow.
