Cardinal’s Kelly Sheen Memorial guarantees big paydays in four IMCA divisions

EUNICE, N.M. (June 26) – Four IMCA divisions take their turn running for big paydays at Cardinal Speedway’s fifth annual Kelly Sheen Memorial Topless Shootout.
Total purse for the Friday and Saturday, July 4 and 5 special is more than $20,000. As the name of the event implies, IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods must remove all body panels above the deck, including the roof, sail panels and pillar posts.

IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars run for $3,000 to win, Modifieds for $2,000, SportMods for $1,500 and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $500.

A sponsor added $2,300 to the Stock Car purse so that feature now pays $1,500 for second, $1,000 for third, $800 for fourth, $500 for fifth, $250 for sixth, $200 for seventh, $150 for eighth, $125 for ninth and a minimum of $100 to start.

The Modified feature is a 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event. IMCA Speed­way Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded to Modified, Stock Car and Hobby Stock drivers; Southern SportMod drivers race for national and state points.

Both the Modified and SportMod features pays a minimum of $125 to start and the Hobby Stock feature pays $50. Thirty laps is the feature distance for the Modifieds, Stock Cars and SportMods, 20 laps for the Hobby Stocks.

RACEceivers are required in all divisions. Cash awards of $100 will be paid to the hard charger and to the driver making the longest tow in each division.

Pit gates open at 3 p.m. Mountain Time, the draw closes at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 8 p.m. both days. Spectator admission is $10 for adults and free for kids six and under. Pit passes are $25.

Gates open at 5 p.m. and an open practice runs from 7-10 p.m. Thursday, July 3. General admission is free while pit passes are $20. Food and beverages following in the pit area is provided by Kendall’s Kountry Meat Market.

Overnight accommodations are available in Eunice at the Oil Patch Motel (575 394-2501) and the Five Star Inn (575 394-0720) and in Hobbs at the Best Western Executive Inn (575 397-7171) and Baymont Inn & Suites (575 393-3355).

Drivers should request Cardinal Speedway rates. Spots are also available at the Finish Line RV Park (806 392-3902), which is within walking distance from the track.
