Saturday showcase for IMCA Stock Cars at Independence Motor Speedway

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – The first of four Saturday Showcase events of the season is scheduled for this Saturday, May 24 at Independence Motor Speedway.

The program, which will feature increased prize money for a select division one week every month, puts the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars in the spotlight this Saturday night. Drivers in that division will compete for a $500 winner’s share.

The Stock Cars, along with the four other weekly divisions – IMCA Late Models, Performance Bodies IMCA Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks – are scheduled to compete for the fifth night of weekly racing this season.

Stock Cars have averaged over 17 cars through the first four weeks of the year at Independence, the most since the end of the 2006 season. This Saturday’s program will follow regular qualifying procedures and all applicable IMCA points will be awarded.

Three more Saturday Showcase events are scheduled for 2014. The Northern SportMods will be featured June 21 and the Hobby Stocks on July 12 before the Stock Cars again take center stage Aug. 9.
“It’s a great program to feature divisions that don’t always headline our special events,” explained co-promoter Todd Summers of the Saturday Showcase program. “We want to show our appreciation for the drivers who support us in those divisions, as well.”

Gates open at 4 p.m. this Saturday, with hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing to follow. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. Kids 11 and under will be admitted free if accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $25.
