OSHKOSH, Wis. – It’s the final laps of the 2013 racing season at Oshkosh Speedzone. After an exciting and successful season at the 1/3-mile clay oval, the raceway is ready to determine a new class of champions.
First up tonight (Friday, Aug. 30) is the LaSaure’s Banquet Hall season championship night at the races. Season-long point battles will come to an end and the champions in each of the five weekly divisions will be named.
The point battles in three classes are exceptionally tight and will likely not be settled until the final checker flag drops.
The Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modifieds have seen the Jerovetz family atop the standings for most of the year as cousins Troy and Sean Jerovetz have fought tooth and nail for the title. Sean, by virtue of his win last week, managed to put a five point gap between himself and Troy. Both drivers have a solid cushion on Marcus Yarie who sits third in the standings, so the outcome is all but assured the Jerovetz name will be on the championship trophy. The only question remains is what the first name will be.
Todd Wiese simply needs to attend the awards banquet to claim his title in the Hansel Trucking IMCA Northern SportMods.
In the Outlaw Chassis Grand Nationals, Brian Henry has a slim two point gap on Larry Richards. Two points is also the difference between point leader Richard Garb and Jerry Kope in the Total Power Sales Street Stocks.
In the Ellington Mutual Insurance Dirt Devils, Mike Montie is basically one more finish away from winning the title.
More than 100 cars are expected to be in attendance for championship night with the first green flag set to wave at 7 p.m. Regular event pricing is in effect as family friendly admission is $10 for adults with young fans ages 11 through 15 admitted for just $5. Children ages 10 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.
