Sites prevails at NY-Penn’s Billy Ward Memorial

By Michael Benjamin AFTON, N.Y. (May 13, 2023) – Eddie Sites had another race to remember on a night Friesen Performance IMCA Modified drivers remembered one of their own. Sites took the lead early in Saturday’s Billy Ward Memorial at Afton Motorsports Park and never looked back, motoring to the $1,504 checkers in the inaugural NY-Penn Series event for the late long-time IMCA competitor. Rick Watt and Jeff Cardinale started on the front row in the second race of the third annual tour, with Cardinale dropping to the back while dealing with an ill car and moving Shawn Bruce up to the outside pole.  All chaos broke loose with the field nearing the end of the first lap, with the first caution flying for an incident collecting Jake Maynard, heat two and dash for cash winner Brad Sites, newcomer J.T. Roe, Tyler Belcher and Lance Conley. Watt and Bruce brought the field to the green for the restart. The 5s of Eddie Sites and the 17x of Rich Michael Jr. started on the second row [Read More]

Sites is king in NY-Penn IMCA Series action at Penn Can

By Evan Canfield  SUSQUEHANNA, Pa. (Sept. 17, 2022) – Eddie Sites reigned when the Close Racing Supply NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series presented by Precision Hydraulic & Oil made its return Saturday for the King of the Can at Penn Can Speedway.  Rich Michael Jr and Tyler Stoddard kicked off the 25-lap, $1,000 to win feature for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds from the front row, but the red flag would be displayed before the end of the first lap for a multi-car incident. Sites was part of that pileup and grabbed back onto the field in the eighth position once the lineup was reset. Michael then took off from the top spot, with Stoddard trying to stay close.  It didn’t take long for Sites to prove why he’s had the car to beat for much of the season as he charged to second by the time the caution flag flew again on lap four.  Sites took a look at every angle possible to make the pass for the lead following the ensuing restart. As the leaders battled, lapped [Read More]

Billy Maynard Memorial checkers are 4th of NY-Penn Series season for Eddie Sites

By Evan Canfield  MONROETON, Pa. (July 8, 2022) – The up and down season for Eddie Sites took another high as the Towanda driver scored his fourth victory of the season in dominating fashion as the Close Racing Supply NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series presented by Precision Hydraulic & Oil made its return to The Hill Speedway for the Billy Maynard Memorial.  Sites’ latest Friesen Performance IMCA Modified victory was good for $1,069. Ray McClure and Gary Lamphere completed the top three at Monroeton.  Two-time tour winner Rodney Morgan started the 25-lap feature on the front row with series rookie Jason Sullivan alongside. Morgan jumped out to the initial lead with Brad Sites looking to challenge before his lap five spin brought out the first of what became back-to-back cautions. Seventh starting Eddie Sites then worked his way around the outside of Morgan to take the top spot away.  A series of yellows followed but the final five laps ran out with Sites, already Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible, taking the dominant victory. ‘Bad’ Brad best in Bradford NY-Penn Series July 3 show

By Todd Burgess  BRADFORD, Pa. (July 3, 2022) – It had been more than 20 years since Bradford Speedway had seen a sanctioned Friesen Performance IMCA Modified race, so the banked bullring nestled in the hills of rural Bradford, Pa., was a fresh face to most of the Close Racing Supply NY-Penn Series presented by Precision Hydraulic and Oil competitors. The July 3 Freedom 25 presented by Liberty Seamless Gutters & Roofing marked stop number six for the series and if anyone had predicted that defending series champion Brad Sites would be rolling into the pits at Bradford winless in 2022, they’d have gotten some strange looks.  After winning his heat race from the pole, things kept rolling Sites’ way as he reached in and pulled chip number one for the 25-lap main event and at the drop of the green, Sites immediately jumped out to a three car length lead over Jake McConnell, with Rodney Morgan close behind in third.  An early caution bunched the field back up and put it squarely on Sites’ rear [Read More]

Morgan gets NY-Penn Series redemption at Bloomsburg

by Evan Canfield BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (June 19, 2022) – In the racing world, most drivers have that one big race that got away. For NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series driver Rodney Morgan, that race was Bloomsburg Fair Raceway in 2021. After leading much of that event, invader David Stremme slipped by Morgan late to take the win. Coming back to Bloomsburg on June 19th, Morgan was determined to get back the one he missed out on a year ago. Series points leader Keith Jack Lamphere set the pace for the beginning of the 25 lap feature, with Ray McClure starting to his outside. Once the green flag waved, Lamphere took the race lead. McClure faded back as Rodney Morgan slid up to second, bringing David Stremme and Brad Sites along with him.  The caution waved on lap four as Shawn Bruce found the turn one wall. That set up a restart with Lamphere in the top spot followed by Morgan, then Stremme and Sites. Morgan got the advantage on Lamphere on the restart, taking the lead away [Read More]

Sites dominates in NY-Penn Series show at The Hill

By Evan Canfield  MONROETON, Pa. (June 10, 2022) – The first half of the 2022 season has been a roller coaster for Eddie Sites. In February, his race shop burned down, leaving little for he and his brother, Brad, to start the season with. He kicked off the Close Racing Supply NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series presented by Precision Hydraulic & Oil season at Skyline Raceway Motorsports Park with a victory, then followed that up with a DNF at Penn Can Speedway after a parts failure. But on Friday, June 10, Sites found himself back in the winner’s circle at The Hill Speedway.  A season-high 18 Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds signed in to do battle and the redraw set Ray McClure and Bill Nichols on the front row.  When the green flag waved to start the 25-lap feature, it would be very short-lived, as a multi-car pileup at the start/finish line would slow the race immediately. Once racing resumed, McClure jumped out to the lead, bringing Jared Spalding along behind him and Jacob McConnell close behind [Read More]

Memorial Weekend NY-Penn Series checkers fly for Morgan

By Evan Canfield   SUSQUEHANNA, Pa. (May 29, 2022) – Rodney Morgan made his way to victory lane when touring Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds made their way to northern Pennsylvania for a Memorial Weekend event.  Morgan outran Keith Jack Lamphere in the race for $1,000 and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility in Sunday’s Close Racing Supply NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series presented by Precision Hydraulic & Oil Sunday at Penn Can Speedway.  Aaron Benjamin and then Shawn Bruce led early in the 25-lapper. Tour opening night winner Eddie Sites was first to close in on the top spot, making his way to second with eighth starting Morgan, 13th starting Lamphere and 11th starting Jake Maynard close behind.  The race for the lead got intense by lap seven, as Sites wheeled the top and Bruce and Morgan ran inside, racing three-wide around much of the Susquehanna oval. As things were heating up, a miscue Bruce sent him and Sites spinning while collecting nearly half a dozen other cars outside the top five in the process. That incident handed [Read More]
