IMCA Stock Cars chase $5,000 King of the Highbanks check at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – The fabled highbanks of Marshalltown Speedway are the setting for the $5,000 to win King of the Highbanks special for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars Thursday and Friday, April 8 and 9.  Stock Cars will run two sets of heats on Thursday with the top 10 in points locked into Friday’s main event. Entry fee for the weekend is $100. IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifiers with a $20 entry fee each night. Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks both race for $500 each night and IMCA Stars Mod Lites complete the Friday card.  Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 7:15 p.m. both nights. Grandstand admission on Thursday is $15 for adults and $12 for seniors, and $20 for adults and $15 for seniors on Friday. Too cold, too windy at Indee: Next Frostbuster is Friday at Marshalltown

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – Cold and wind get the blame for cancellation of Thursday’s Frostbuster at Independence Motor Speedway.  IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods now see their next Frostbuster action Friday, April 2 at Marshalltown Speedway.  Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. The draw closes at 6:15 p.m. with hot laps at 7 p.m. and racing to follow.  Frostbusters follow Saturday at Boone Speedway and Sunday at Benton County Speedway.

Benton County Frostbuster rescheduled to Sunday, Stuart opens tonight

VINTON, Iowa – Wednesday’s scheduled IMCA Frostbuster at Benton County Speedway has been rescheduled to Sunday, April 4.  Track officials made that announcement after determining they could not get the dirt oval at Vinton race-ready for the number of cars expected to compete on the original date.  Along with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods, Mach-1 Sport Compacts will be on the Sunday card.  Racing starts at 5 p.m. and there will be Easter eggs for the kids. More information about the Benton County Frostbuster is to be announced. Frostbuster Week starts tonight (Tuesday) at Stuart Speedway. IMCA Modifieds, Stocks, SportMods and Hobbies also run at Frostbusters Thursday, April 1 at Independence Motor Speedway; Friday, April 2 at Mar­shalltown Speedway; and Saturday, April 3 at Boone Speed­way.

Aikey, Carter cash in with IMCA Modified wins at World Nationals

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 18-19) – Jeff Aikey and Cayden Carter were $2,000 IMCA Modi­fied feature winners at Marshalltown Speedway’s 14th annual World Nationals. Aikey made it back-to-back trips to victory lane, following his Thursday night Dale DeFrance Memo­rial IMCA Late Model victory in the 500th and final Summer Series event. Carter joined Ai­key on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot with the Saturday checkers. Aikey drew the pole for Friday’s 25-lap feature and led the entire race to take the win. Carter and Ethan Dotson challenged Aikey several times, but he fended them off. Carter finished second and Dot­son took third, followed by Todd Shute and 18th place starter Tim Ward was fifth. J.D. Auringer paced the opening laps on Saturday but Carter quickly moved from his fifth starting position and into the lead.  Carter never relinquished that lead, though Tom Berry did his best to reel him in. IMCA Summer Series standouts DeFrance, Aikey are celebrated at 500th, final event at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 17) – The two drivers synonymous with IMCA’s Summer Series for Late Models were honored before and at the end of Marshalltown Speedway’s Dale DeFrance Me­morial.  Darrel DeFrance, Dale’s son, was recognized for his perfect attendance through the series’ 500th and final event. Jeff Aikey won that final feature, leading all but the first three of 44 laps to win for the series-best 71st time.  One of, if not the most respected drivers in division history, the Ironman DeFrance received a custom door panel, a stone plaque engraved with pictures of his cars from different eras, and a die cast replica of his father’s race car during pre-race ceremonies.  A standing ovation from his hometown fans followed congratulations from IMCA officials and pro­moter Toby Kruse. “I raced every race I could, trying to win every race I could,” DeFrance said of his streak. Dale DeFrance Memorial, World Nationals at Marshalltown Sept. 17-19

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Two of the biggest special events in Central Iowa will be held back-to-back at Marshalltown Speedway with the Dale DeFrance Memorial on Sept. 17 and World Nationals Sept. 18 and 19. Five IMCA divisions are on the card for the rescheduled DeFrance Memorial. IMCA Sunoco Late Models run for $2,619 to win that evening in their 500th and final Summer Series event while top prize for IMCA Modifieds is $1,125 in a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying feature.  IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars race for $650 to win, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods for $575 and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $400. There is no entry fee for the draw/redraw show. Five IMCA divisions head to High Banks for Showdown at MoTown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Drivers in five IMCA divisions battle it out on the High Banks of Mar­shalltown Speedway, at the Sept. 4 Showdown at MoTown.  IMCA Modifieds chase a $1,000 top check in their 2021 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot quali­fier. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods both race for $500 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 Sport Compacts – the 4-cylinder class is new to the card – both for $300 to win.  There is no entry fee and pit passes are $30. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and KMJ Performance State points will be awarded. Pit gates open at 5:15 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:55 p.m. with racing to follow. Berry, Murty, Logue, Richards all record Marshalltown wins

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Aug. 21) – Marshalltown Speedway was back in action Friday night, missing only one week of racing due to the area’s devastating derecho.  The lights taken down during the storm were replaced with two BOSS LTG Stadium Light Towers and the show went on with KMJ Performance Free Grandstand Night. Tom Berry put on another dominating performance, winning for the eighth time this season in the IMCA Modifieds. Dallon Murty is mastering the High Banks in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, tak­ing his third trip to victory lane.  Johnathon Logue took the checkers for the third race in a row in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Braden Richards went back to the winner’s circle in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. DeFrance takes Late Model title, Mueller sees 100th victory at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Aug. 7) – Feature wins were especially notable Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. IMCA Sunoco Late Models wrapped up their regular season and hometown hero Darrel De­France claimed the track title as well as winning the feature. He led from the drop of the green to the checkers in a 20-lap race that went non-stop.    Jeff Mueller had to dig around the bottom of the track in the 18-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car fea­ture to get the win, but he got the job done. Mueller started 12th, caught and passed rim-riding Dallon Murty at lap 12 and held the lead to the finish to earn his career 100th win in the division.  Tom Berry Jr. continued his domination in the IMCA Modified division, winning for the seventh time at the High Banks, and Johnathon Logue made it two in a row in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods.  Solomon Bennett snagged his first-ever win at Marshalltown in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.

Marshalltown first on Friday for Ballard

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 31) – Nathan Ballard raced to his first-ever Marshalltown Speed­way feature win, taking the Friday night IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock checkers. Ballard started on the outside front row and led all 15 laps on his way to victory.  Jacob Floyd chased Ballard the entire distance but trailed a distant second.  Braden Richards finished third, fourth went to 11th place starter Solomon Bennett and Tyler Ollendieck was fifth. Tom Berry Jr. posted another dominant win in the IMCA Modified feature as he won the 20-lap main event from the eighth starting spot. Berry had the lead at lap three and then drove away from the field. The IMCA Sunoco Late Models went 20-laps for their feature.  Bobby Hansen held the top spot through the first portion of the race until Curtis Glover snatched it away for good on lap seven.  Luke Pestka finished in second over Darrel DeFrance.
