Beckendorf gets opening night win at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (May 6) – Brandon Beckendorf added another $1,000 IMCA Modified feature win to his early season tally on opening night Thursday at Kossuth County Speedway. Beckendorf started on the pole, took the lead immediately and was g-o-n-e, building a half straightway lead before an ugly yellow flag on lap 13. On the restart, Beckendorf, already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, took the lead again and fought off a late challenge from a hard-charging Nick Meyer to earn the big payday. Meyer was the runner-up followed by Jeremy Mills. Kelly Shryock placed fourth and Austin Wolf rounded out the top five. Gerald Curry and Matt Looft led the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod field to the flagstand for the green flag. Season champions crowned at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 20) – In the final evening of dirt track racing of the summer Thursday at Kossuth County Speedway, unofficial season champions were crowned in each of the divisions. Kaytee DeVries overcame a three-point deficit by earning her fourth feature win of the season to edge Lucas Parsons by one point for the Mach-1 Sport Compact championship. The early leader in the 12-car feature was A.J. Myott as the caution came out on lap five with Myott still in the lead. Off the restart, DeVries grabbed the lead and went onto the victory. Myott held on for a runner-up finish as Jade Lange was third. The closest feature of the evening was in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Jake Masters kept the heat on Kelly Shryock for the final two laps but the Fertile driver wrapped up the season championship in the class with his fifth feature win. ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 6) – The race didn’t start the way Nick Meyer hoped it would, but it ended just the way he wanted it to. Rust is sharp in Speed Shift TV Dirt Knights IMCA Modified Tour win at Hancock County

BRITT, Iowa (July 28) – The game plan Joel Rust brought to Hancock County Speedway and the third installment of the Speed Shift TV Dirt Knights Tour for IMCA Modifieds played out to perfection Tuesday night. Rust led all but the opening circuit in the 25-lap contest, outrunning Ethan Braaksma and Jeremy Mills to the $1,000 checkers. “We had a good draw, got to the lead quick and had to keep hitting our marks,” said Rust, who had taken the initial green flag from inside row two. “There were a lot of good cars here tonight and we got it done.” Rust was pulling away from the rest of the field when cautions came out on lap seven and again on lap 16, when his advantage over the second-running David Brown was nearly six seconds. Kossuth County Salute to Veterans is Thursday

ALGONA, Iowa – Kossuth County Speedway’s Thursday night Salute to Veterans sees IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars both racing for top checks of $2,000. The Modified feature is a qualifying event for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods both race for $1,000 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts complete the sanctioned card at Algona on July 23. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Spectator admission is $10 for adults and free for veterans and their spouses and kids ages 14 and under. Burns earns first career feature win

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 16) – James Burns won his first career feature race to highlight an exciting night of dirt track racing at the Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday. The big night of racing drew another nice crowd count of 104 cars filling the pit area looking for a tune up for the upcoming Salute to Veterans show. Burns took the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature holding off a late challenge from Brandon Nielsen. The Algona driver was racing with a heavy heart as his grandmother had passed away earlier in the day and in a victory lane interview, dedicated the race to her. Jay Sidles grabbed the early lead before an early caution. The race resumed as Burns used the high side to get past Sidles on lap four. He built a comfortable lead only to see Nielsen closing fast, but Burns slammed the door to set off a wild celebration in victory lane with his first career victory. Larson, Shryock earn IMCA tour wins at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 1) – A teenager with the biggest win of his life and a veteran driver with a ton of feature wins highlighted the Midwest Madness Tour show at Kossuth County Speedway. Sixteen-year old Jayden Larson won the IMCA Modified feature, holding off Travis Hatcher, Jeremy Mills and Kelly Shyrock for the biggest victory of his young career. The $1,000 checkers put the Mankato, Minn., driver on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. The veteran Shryock also earned $1,000 for his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory. Hatcher and Larson led 24 Modifieds to the flag stand with Larson out front by lap two. After cautions on laps six and 10, the race stayed green for nine circuits. Boumeester is winner at Kossuth County Wyffel’s Hybrids IMCA SportMod special

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 25) – Jared Boumeester led the final 19 laps to collect the $1,000 checkers in the Wyffel’s Hybrids IMCA SportMod special at Kossuth County Speedway. Twenty-nine Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods contested the Thursday night main event with Boumeester getting the win ahead of Matt Looft and George Nordman. Boumeester had slid past Zach Davis for the lead on the sixth lap of the 25-lap feature and built a comfortable lead before encountering a group of lapped cars on the 15th circuit. Looft closed the gap to make things interesting as the two drivers weaved in and out of traffic.
