McBirnie, Kuehl are roofless in runs to big money at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (June 8, 2024) – Fans at Iowa’s Action Track were treated to the annual topless racing spectacular Saturday night, as both Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds and Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods ran sans roofs. The Capital Signs Co. Dirty 30’s saw the roofs and sails removed from both divisions as they raced for $1,200 for the Modified victory and $1,000 for the SportMods. Jake McBirnie and Taylor Kuehl got the distinct honors of taking home those prizes. Johnathon Logue clawed his way to the front and took checkers in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Braden Gifford got his first-ever win in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks in a wild and crazy race, and Charlie Brown got back to victory lane in the Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lites. By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (June 1, 2024) – Saturday night at Boone Speedway, the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars raced in memory of Eloise Davis, wife of Greg Davis, and mother of Scott Davis. The Class Too Tough To Tame had 43 cars checked in on the night honoring the Davis family. Jimmy Gustin got his second feature win of the year in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified division and Jake McBirnie took the thrilling last corner pass win in the Stocks. Matt Avila found victory lane for the second time this year in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and John Watson was the winner in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Ben George won the Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lite main. George led from start to finish in the Mod Lite 15-lap feature, chased the entire caution-free race by last week’s winner Bryan Zehm. VINTON, Iowa (May 31, 2024) – Add a dozen IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers to the list of those eligible to qualify for the upcoming B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational. Ricky Thornton Jr. earned a guaranteed start on the grid for that race with his win at Clay County Fair Speedway’s Quarter Million Dollar Challenge. Kyle Clough scored big at Lincoln County’s NASCAR Night show and Casey Woken topped Dawson County Raceway’s Governor’s Cup show. Monday Madness checkers at Independence flew for Tom Schmitt. Kyle Frederick was first across the stripe in the Too Tough To Tame race at Shawano Speedway and Hancock County Speedway Spring Fling honors belonged to Troy Swearingen. Fast Shafts All-Star eligible list adds 15 despite wet May

VINTON, Iowa (May 31, 2024) – Flood gates of another kind opened despite a wet month of May, as another 15 Friesen Performance IMCA Modified drivers became eligible to qualify for the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Checkers flew for Tripp Gaylord at Stuart Speedway’s Blackberry Brandy Brawl. Holiday winners were Tyson Blood at Grays Harbor Raceway’s Modified Clash, Andrew Pearce at Southern Oregon Speedway’s R. Charles Snyder Salute, Bobby Hogge at Stockton Dirt Track’s Al Miller Memorial and Matt Werner in the Memorial Day Madness show at Davenport Speedway. Drake Findley and Brint Hartwick ventured to Oklahoma and Texas, respectively, to top All Star Shootout features. There were 172 cars checked in for the Memorial Day Holiday weekend event that included extra money on the line for the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, celebrating their 45th anniversary and the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods, celebrating 19 years of racing. It was also a Stealth Racing Corn Belt Clash race for the IMCA STARS Mod Lites. It was Tom Berry Jr. taking top honors in the IMCA Modifieds, in an exciting race for the fans that witnessed a “slide fest.” Austin Bouzek got his first win at the track when he took the checkers in the IMCA Sunoco Stock car “A” main. It’s Shute in a thriller at Boone

Todd Shute took the win in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, in a race that will be talked about as one of the best ever witnessed. Dusty Van Horn took to the top shelf of the track in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and never looked back. Dustin Lynch also took a fans on their feet win at the line in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. It was Mike Smith back in familiar victory lane in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Josh May, in the Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lites, took his first win of the season at the track. 45 years of the IMCA Modified celebrated May 24-26 at Marshalltown, Boone, Vinton

VINTON, Iowa (May 17, 2024) – It’s a three-night event 45 years in the making and it plays out at three of the tracks where IMCA has been part of weekly racing programs for decades. Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds are the spotlight division in $2,000 to win 45th Anniversary events Friday, May 24 at Marshalltown Speedway and Saturday, May 25 at Boone Speedway, then chase a top check on $4,500 and $400 to start in the Sunday, May 26 show at Benton County Speedway. The first-ever IMCA Modified feature was held in Vinton on June 2, 1979; the division crowned its first track champion at Boone in 1983 and at Marshalltown in 1984. First-time winner Cory Wray enjoyed his visit to victory lane in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds. Jake McBirnie took the win in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and it was Cam Reimers with a thrilling finish at the line in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. Eric Knutson also took the checkers in the final moments in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Travis Stensland repeated his win from last week in the Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lites. Car Wars Night victories go to Gustin, Avila, Logue, Watson and Stensland

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (May 4, 2024) – Boone Speedway rocketed back into action Saturday after Mother Nature had other ideas last week. It was May Fourth and Car Wars Night with the drivers all wanting to take home those unique trophies by Logue Fabrication for each class. One hundred and seventy-six cars checked in which included 36 Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds. The top car count went to the 47 IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods brought 31, the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks drew 40 and the Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lites were 22 strong. Travis Stensland swept the 15-lap Mod Lite feature. Stensland led all laps on his way to victory, stretching out his lead after a lap eight restart and taking the checkers by a lengthy margin.
