Cota collects third straight win at Seymour Speedway

SEYMOUR, Wis. (Aug. 17) – Jeremy Cota, Benji Lacrosse and Barry Van Straten scored victories Sunday night at Seymour Speedway. Cota made his way around J. J. Andersen on the 10th lap of the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature to earn his third straight victory and fourth of the season. Andersen and Lucas Lamberies completed the top three. With help from a caution flag midway through the Budweiser IMCA Modified feature, LaCrosse was able to drive to his first win of the season. The restart erased Brad Lautenbach’s straightaway lead and allowed LaCrosse to drive the outside lane to victory. Lautenbach was second ahead of Erik Mahlik. Van Straten made his way through lapped traffic to pull away to his third win of the year in the Coors Light IMCA Stock Car feature. Chas Van Ooyen and Kyle Frederick completed the top three.

Becker and Charles pick up first wins of 2014 at Thunder Hill

(Aug. 16) – Justin Becker was able to hang on through a bunch of yellow flags to win his first BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modified feature of the season Saturday night at Thunder Hill Speedway. Becker, who started sixth in the main event, shot out to the early advantage and extended it to a considerable margin only to see it erased by several yellow flags. Becker met all challenges on the restarts to drive away to the win. A third generation driver piloted to his first win in the Belleville Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMods. Austin Charles, son of Danny Charles and grandson of Tom Charles, put another good run together that lasted until the finish. Charles, who started seventh, was challenged in the late stages by Bryan Rigsby, but coming to the white flag Rigsby’s rear end gave out to bring out a green, white, checkered scenario. Luellen sweeps feature, points title at Stuart Speedway

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (Aug. 17) – Track champions were crowned Sunday night at Stuart Speedway. Marcus Fagan, Clint Luellen, Logan Richards, Luke Wanninger, Andy Forcht and Jamie Schirm were feature winners on Plowman/Stanley Trenching Night at the Races and Brian Blessington, Luellen, Cody Cleghorn, Josh Gilman, Korbin Nourse and Shannon Anderson wrapped up track championships. Luellen earned his eighth win of the year on the way to Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod track championship honors. Luellen survived a late restart to hold off Jake McBirnie and Kody Havens to earn the feature win. Fagan was chased by Blessington and Jeff Anderson throughout the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature before driving to victory. Richards led the entire distance to win the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature ahead of Dean Loga and Cody Cleghorn. Cleghorn earned seven feature wins this season on his way to the track title. Jackson, McClure among winners at Raceway Park

JEFFERSON, S. D. (Aug. 17) – Five drivers raced to victory lane Sunday night at Raceway Park. Luke Jackson took the win in the KISS 107 FM IMCA Sport Compact feature. Jackson was chased to the end by Aaron Edwardson and point leader Ramsey Meyer. Lapped traffic came into play on the final lap of the MOPAR IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Making the right move and taking the win was Jake McClure followed by Ron Jensen and Andy Hoffman. Point leader Todd Boulware scored another win in the Skyline Casino IMCA Northern SportMod division. Boulware topped Darin Roepke and Karl Brewer in the final run down. Josh Ruschmann broke into victory lane for the first time this season in the Casey’s General Stores IMCA Stock Car feature. Trailing Ruschmann at the checkers were Jason Ward and Bo Lundquist. Bob Moore had the hot hand in the Jebro, Inc. IMCA Modified division, taking the win over Jason Schneiders and early leader Chris Mills.

Allen, Kaup, Witthuhn top action at Dodge City Raceway Park

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. (Aug. 16) – Austin Allen, Jeff Kaup and Dusty Witthuhn celebrated in victory lane Friday night at Dodge City Raceway Park. In the 20-lap IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main event, Allen moved to the top of the point standings with his first feature win of the year. He earned the win in dramatic fashion, making a last lap pass of race-long leader William Nusser to snare the win. Current Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod points leader and reigning track champion Kaup took advantage of a late caution to snare his fourth win of the year in that 20-lapper. When leader Jamie French bobbled on the restart, Kaup raced to victory. After battling side-by-side with Josh Crombie for several laps, Witthuhn surged ahead on the 10th circuit en route to his first IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win of the season.

1,000 Stars tire tests result in disqualifications

VINTON, Iowa – Tires of two IMCA Modified drivers failed to pass inspection following the Thur., Aug. 7 Night of 1,000 Stars at Hancock County Speedway in Britt. The tires were brought into question by the JTR Eagle tire sniffer. Concluding that night’s race, tire samples from qualifying races were taken and sent to an independent testing facility where they failed inspection. Tires from both the eventual third place finisher Ryan Ruter and fourth place finisher Kyle Strickler failed the tire test. They were deemed to having been chemically treated. As such, both drivers have been disqualified from that event. Tires were also taken from event winner Mark Elliott. His tires were deemed to conform and passed inspection.

First in non-fendered voting goes to McGee’s Modified

GALESBURG, Ill. – No doubt readers of the Inside IMCA newsletter with good memories will remember Dean McGee as the winner of the November, 2009 best looking car contest. More recently, his IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified was voted the top non-fendered entry in this month’s Sybesma Graphics IMCA Facebook Fan Favorite contest for August. He’ll receive a mini-mod door from Sybesma. Unfortunately, race fans at Davenport Speedway and 34 Raceway may not be seeing that car on the track this weekend. “The car is in pieces at the moment. I tangled with a lapped car and met the wall a week ago Saturday,” said McGee, who has taken advantage of the time away from the track to enjoy his grandchildren more. “I’m hoping to get the car ready but it was pretty well mashed.” The son of two-time Illinois state champion “Fibber” McGee, he started his career in 34’s super modified class in 1973. Burg tops fan voting for IMCA fendered divisions

ADEL, Iowa – The number of votes left little doubt that Andrew Burg has quite a fan following. Burg’s IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock was the top choice in August balloting for the Sybesma Graphics IMCA Facebook Fan Favorite contest. As a result, the 13-year-veteran will receive a mini-hood from contest sponsor Sybesma Graphics. “I’ve always raced a Hobby Stock. I’ve spent my entire career in that division,” said Burg, who finished fourth in points at Stuart, anticipates a similar finish at Boone and won a single feature at each track this season. “I like the cost of the class and being able to race with the best of the best. We race with a lot of the best drivers in the country every Saturday and Sunday of the season.” He shares a shop with Shannon Anderson, John Watson and Jamie Songer. “I started racing with my dad when I got out of the service. Sobbing is tops in Tipton XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour feature

TIPTON, Iowa (Aug. 19) – And then there were nine. Jesse Sobbing became the ninth different winner in as many XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour events this season on Tuesday night at Cedar County Raceway. He bested a stellar field of 45 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds for the victory that paid $1,000 and put him on the ballot for next year’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Brad Diercks, 16th starting Brian Webb, Darin Duffy and Kyle Brown completed the top five. Steve Stewart drew the pole start and battled back and forth with Sobbing much of the first half in the 30-lapper. Stewart used the low line while Sobbing stayed on the high side, finally finding his way past near midway. Duffy then gave chase, also up top, while Diercks and Stewart contested for third. Kay is convincing in Deery Series feature win at Cedar County

TIPTON, Iowa (Aug. 19) – Justin Kay continues to do his best to take the suspense out of the Deery Brothers Summer Series points battle. Kay started on the pole and led every time around the track in winning Tuesday’s IMCA Late Model tour main event at Cedar County Raceway. The feature ran green to checkered and probably took less time than Kay will need to deposit his $3,000 check, the fourth he’s endorsed this season. Kyle Hinrichs ran second most of the way at Tipton and eventually crossed the stripe four car lengths behind Kay. Tyler Bruening pressured Hinrichs before ending in third. Brian Harris and Brian Beaudry completed the top five. Scott Fitzpatrick won the $250 Sunoco Race Fuels feature qualifier drawing.
