Becerra roars to East Moline Mix Memorial cash

The Carthage, Ill., ace went to the top groove and stayed there the entire 20 laps of the Mike Mix Memorial SportMod Shootout Sunday evening at East Moline Speedway. Becerra wheeled around Cody Calam and Adam Birck, then held off Jarett Franzen for the $1,000 Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod win. “The track had some character and you have to (be able to) run the top like that,” Becerra said in the Winner’s Circle. “I’m not a bottom feeder so I had to make the top work.” Becerra waited out a couple cautions, but always pulled away from the field. AMES, Iowa – Drivers in three IMCA divisions can take their post-season awards from Quick Performance straight to the bank. The Ames, Iowa, manufacturer and fourth-year IMCA sponsor gives $100 QP cash bonuses IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod drivers finishing in the top five in national point standings this season. Smith too tough in Class Too Tough Too Tame at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (June 26) – David Smith was too tough to catch in The Class Too Tough To Tame Saturday night at Boone Speedway. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars rolled out for their 20-lap feature and polesitter Mike House was the early race leader, holding on until halfway when the 14th starting Smith took over. A couple of late race cautions were no bother to Smith as he kept his lead to the checkers and sealed the win. Brother Donavon Smith started 10th and took second and Mathew West was third. Bryan Zehm led all 15 laps of the IMCA STARS Mod Lite race. It was an epic battle behind him however, as Josh May, Randy Bryan, and Mike Kennedy duked it out. Mills finds smooth line, Harris wins from last on opening night for Midwest Madness Tour

JEFFERSON, S.D. (June 27) – Chris Mills found the smooth line and Ryan Harris raced to an IMCA career first on opening night of the Karl Kustoms Midwest Madness Tour. Mills was the $1,200 IMCA Modified winner at The New Raceway Park, while Harris won the Sunday feature for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, and $1,000, from the 24th and last starting spot. Defending track and KMJ Performance State champion Mills stayed where it was smooth from fifth starting, staying low in the first set of turns and high in the second, and had the Modified lead early into the 25-lapper. $1,000 top check, All-Star berth for IMCA Modifieds at stake July 4 at Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa – A $1,000 to win, Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event for IMCA Modifieds is now scheduled this Sunday at Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway. IMCA Sunoco Late Models, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks are also on the July 4 ticket and all divisions will be draw/redraw. The Fast-Shafts qualifying event for Modifieds was rained out and rescheduled from last Sunday. Pit gates and the grandstand open at 4 p.m. Hot laps are at 6 p.m. with racing to follow. Pit passes are $30 or $15 for kids ages 7-13 and free for six and under. Spectator admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors ages 65 and up, $6 for student ages 13-17 and free for kids 12 and under accompanying a paid adult. BANKS, Ore. – The winner of Sunset Speedway’s inaugural Firecracker 100 for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars takes $5,000 to the bank. The 100-lap special brings the curtain down on the Sunday, July 4 special, the top-paying event in the history of the Banks track. The winner also earns an automatic starting spot in the B & B Chassis All-Star race. No entry fee will be charged and pit passes are $40. Ward, Murty, Carter motor to Granite City Land of Ten Thousand Lakes IMCA wins

SAUK RAPIDS, Minn. (June 27) – Tim Ward and Dallon Murty ended Land of Ten Thousand Lakes 10K Week with $10,000 feature wins while Brayton Carter’s $5,000 checkers bookended the richest week ever of IMCA racing in Minnesota. Ward wired the IMCA Modified 50-lapper Sunday at Granite City Motor Park, chased every time around the quick 3/8-mile Sauk Rapids oval by Cody Laney while Murty made his way to the lead from 10th starting just before halfway of the 50-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main and outdistanced Elijah Zevenbergen. Wood earns first Oil Capital victory at Southern Oklahoma

(June 26) – With five top five and nine top 10 finishes coming into Saturday’s AmeriFlex/Oil Capital Racing Series IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car event at Southern Oklahoma Speedway, Danny Wood has been on the verge of getting his first victory. The wait is over. Wood started on the pole and went the distance to win his first career series feature at Ardmore. While Wood was in firm command of the top spot, there was plenty of driver movement behind him. Joe Bob Lee started 10th and worked his way through the field to second but was six seconds behind Wood at the finish. Magee breaks through, Schroeder wins fourth at Wagner

WAGNER, S.D. (June 25) – On an evening that had threats of rain, week eight of the Fort Randall Casino Weekly Racing Series at Wagner Speedway took the green flag Friday night with a mission: Let’s get this show in! Mission accomplished. The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main event led off the show and to say that Joel Magee has waited a long time for a win would be the understatement of the year. Magee has a home in Florida and commutes to and from the region multiple times during the summer by air to race at IMCA tracks in the area.
