National Guard recruit White has former track champ lined up to take over IMCA Hobby Stock

WEST FARGO, N.D. – After Alyssa White enlisted in the National Guard, the question came up as to who would take over behind the wheel of her IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock. The answer became the family member who already has a track championship to their credit: Her mother, Gina.  “My dad brought it up and I thought it would be so cool,” said Alyssa, now in her fifth season in the division. “I put something about it on Facebook and my friends agreed she should race.”  Husband and wife, co-crew chiefs and competitors Jim and Gina raced street stocks in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, at Adventure Mountain Raceway, where Gina won the 2007 track title.  The family later relocated to West Fargo, N.D. Alyssa had been pestering her dad about getting her into a car long before she started racing a Hobby Stock at 14. Notably, her first time on the track was in a race, as test and tunes leading up to her debut event had all been canceled.  “I don’t remember where I finished [Read More]

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (July 2) – Dave Eckrich proved the fastest in a field of 27 IMCA Sunoco Late Models, earning $1,000 for his Friday night Iowa Corn Growers Association Drive For Five qualifying feature win. Ron Klein and Eckrich drew front row starts for the 25-lapper, with Klein out ahead of Eckrich and Jay Johnson after a couple early restarts. Eckrich used his momentum off the top of the track coming out of turn four to take the lead on lap two. The pace Eckrich set put him into lapped traffic on lap nine, which allowed Klein, Gary Webb and Johnson to close in. Disaster struck fourth running Johnson on lap 11 as he spun under the flag stand and collected eighth running Logan Duffy. On the restart, Eckrich jumped back out front, with Klein and Webb close behind. Then just after the lap was scored complete, Kevin Peters spun in turn 4 and collected Ray Raker to bring out the caution. Eckrich again grabbed the lead on the restart with Tommy Elston, who started [Read More]
