Sanctioned Stock Cars return to Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. (April 25) – Opening night brought the Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Cars back to Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway for the first time since the 2000 season and put 14 cars on the feature grid. Rod Snellenberger started on the pole and quickly pulled into the lead. Justin Jacobsen, David Hoerning, Travis Van Straten and John Heinz were grouped behind. Several cautions bunched the field around mid-race but each time Snellenberger was able to maintain the lead. A final restart with six laps remaining gave Heinz a shot at the lead as he moved into the runner-up spot and right behind the leader. The perennial rivals put on a great battle with Snellenberger able to hold on to collect the opening checkers with Heinz right behind. Sellard scores big on opening night at Salina

By Larry Lowrey Jr. SALINA, Kan. (April 25) – Heavy hitters filled the BMS IMCA Modified field on opening night at Salina Speedway and the fastest of them proved to be Clay Sellard. Pole starter Corey Lagroon gave chase but in the end it was Sellard notching the win. Lyle Shepard got the best of Danny Morrison in the battle for third. A whopping 25 cars showed up to shoot it out in the M&H Motors IMCA Northern SportMod division. Some of the toughest racers in IMCA come from this division and it’s no surprise that there was a lot of passing in this feature. Austin Carter held off the competition and got the win. Daniel Gottschalk and Tyler Frye were dicing through the field as they started 11th and 10th on the field respectively. Michehl wins Hobby Stock thriller at Hamilton County

By Jeremy Fox WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (April 26) – Myles Michehl debuted a new car and won a thriller in the Casady Brothers Implement IMCA Hobby Stock 15-lap feature on opening night Saturday at Hamilton County Speedway. Michel worked his way up from seventh starting to challenge Randy Embrey and finally gained the lead on lap 11. He went on to take the win while Craig Graham worked his way by Embrey late in the race to finish second with Embrey in third. Mundt and Roe finish fourth and fifth respectively. The Chalfant Plumbing and Neighbors Heating and Cooling IMCA Late Model 20-lap feature saw Darrel DeFrance and Curt Schroeder on the front row. Kay captures Davenport season opener

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (April 25) – Good weather and a good field of cars were on hand Friday for the Koehler Electric Season Opener at the Davenport Speedway. Justin Kay continued his dominance in the Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model main. Mike Zemo Jr. jumped out to the lead after an early re-start. On lap six, Zemo had a little trouble navigating turn four and Kay slid into the top spot. He had started fourth but led the last 20 laps en route to the checkers. Mike Murphy Jr., worked his way from a fifth row start to finish second. Matt Ryan finished third with Todd Malmstrom fourth. Zemo recovered from a mid-race caution to finish fifth. Doug Crampton started the season out right with a win in the Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modifed feature. Jason Bahrs led the first 14 laps before his car suddenly slowed, giving Crampton the lead. Lauritzen scores second straight at Marshalltown

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 25) – Ronn Lauritzen won his second IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature in as many weeks Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. Andrew Kinser and Kyle Brown swapped the lead before Lauritzen took charge on lap 10. Jon Snyder was runner-up. Michael Jaennette was the third and final different leader in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car 18-lapper. Jenae Gustin regained the front spot for good on the 11th of 18 circuits in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main. Tenth starting John Watson led the last two times around the track in winning the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature and David Moorman topped the Mach-1 Sport Compact main event.

EQ Wild West Tour opens with doubleheader at Delta

DELTA, Utah (April 29) – The eighth annual EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour opens this weekend at Millard County Raceway, with a pair of $1,000 to win features for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds. Pit gates at Delta open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3. Hot laps are at 5:45 p.m. with racing to follow. Both features are qualifying events for the 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot and all applicable IMCA points will be awarded. Hammock leads to Ark-La-Tex checkers in return visit to Vivian

VIVIAN, La. (April 26) – Jerry Hammock didn’t recall much about the results of his first visit to Ark-La-Tex Speedway four or five years ago. His second visit proved to be much more memorable. Hammock won Saturday’s 20-lap Sprint Series of Texas main event at Vivian from the ninth starting spot. “I got a good start and made it to the front in about five laps,” he said. “We got there using the top side and after that went away, the middle is where we ended up running.” Multiple cautions kept eliminated lapped traffic. Quad City hosts May 4 Hershel Roberts Memorial Deery

Three first-time winners top opening night at Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (April 26) – Of the 103 drivers signed in for opening night, three who had never previously won at Independence Motor Speedway ended the evening in victory lane. Joel Callahan redrew the pole position for the 25-lap IMCA Late Model feature and quickly pulled away from the field when the green flag waved. Callahan maintained a straightaway lead over his nearest pursuer despite heavy lapped traffic. Callahan’s lead disappeared when a lap 21 caution flag bunched the field and placed Tyler Bruening on his rear bumper for the ensuing restart.
