Stock Car Challenge bragging rights belong to Nichols

By Kelly Ninas LEXINGTON, Neb. (Aug. 2) – Bragging rights belonged to Mike Nichols at Dawson County Raceway’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car Challenge Sunday night. Nichols raced from 11th to win the pole dash, then from 12th to top the main event. He took home $2,360 for his efforts, an amount that included $1,500 for the main event victory, $500 when he agreed to invert the top 12 finishers from the pole dash and $360 in lap money. Kyle Clough led the first seven times around the oval from his pole start. Nichols passed his way toward the front on the high line, then went to the lowest line to drive by Clough. “B” feature qualifier Kyle Vanover raced from 14th starting to second but wasn’t able to catch Nichols. Whitman wins fair feature at OshKosh

By Dave Panske OSHKOSH, Wis. (Aug. 4) – Johnny Whitman was the Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modified winner Tuesday, during the Winnebago County Fair show at Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway. Eric Mahlik had settled into first with the white flag in the air but Whitman made a final lap move pay off, edging Mahlik a the line for his second feature win of the season here. Mahlik took second with Mike Wedelstadt scored next. Jeff Schmuhl held off Kleinschmidt over the final laps to record his second local Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature win of the season. The battle for the third was tight the entire second half of the race with Jon Schultz taking the position at the finish line. The stars came out for the Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Car feature. Travis Van Straten gained the lead for good on the 14th circuit and raced to is fourth straight and eighth overall OshKosh win this year ahead of Rod Snellenberger and Justin Jacobsen. DeYoung cruises at Crystal

CRYSTAL, Mich. (Aug. 1) – After disaster was averted, Johnny DeYoung raced to the Allstar Performance IMCA Modified checkers Saturday at Crystal Motor Speedway. Jerry Hunt’s engine had given up the ghost coming down the front stretch in front of most of the field but everyone except Hunt was able to continue. Kody Johnson took the point but gave it up to DeYoung a few laps in and he went on to cruise to the win. Johnson was second and Mitchell Hunt third.

Sunday wins for Wilson, Tucker at Merced Speedway

By Don Martin II MERCED, Calif. (Aug. 2) – Alex Wilson won Sunday’s 20-lap Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature at Merced Speedway. The lead trio of Bob Williamson, Wilson and Bill Egleston ran close early on. An inside move on the seventh lap gained Wilson the lead, but he got sideways a lap later as Egleston raced by. However, Wilson beat Egleston back to the line for the lead on lap nine. Alex Wilson started to pull away, Kyle Wilson began making his move, passing Ricky Thatcher for fourth on lap 11 and Williamson for third on lap 15. As Alex Wilson happily took the checkered flag, Kyle made a low move in the final turn to grab second from Egleston. After taking the lead from Dwayne Short and surviving a late challenge from Bruce Nelson, Gary Tucker won his second 20-lap Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod event of the season.

California rookie Dotson delivers with flag to flag run to Harris Clash checkers

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (Aug. 4) – The first thing Ethan Dotson did when he pulled into victory lane at Hamilton County Speedway Tuesday night was call his folks back home in Bakersfield, Calif. When he got out of his Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified, the 16-year-old rookie shared more details about his flag-to-flag run at the front of the Harris Clash field. “It’s always been a dream to run the Clash. Winning it is like a dream come true,” he said after taking the $2,000 checkers. “I never pictured myself winning this race.” The victory, just his career second in the division, came in a new GRT ride. Mayden’s the Man at Cottage Grove

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (Aug. 1) – Career win number one in the class came Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified hotshoe Jake Mayden. Kinzer Cox was the early pace setter and remained in the lead until lap five, when Mayden joined him up front and the pair battled side-by-side. Cox regained the lead on lap eight only to have it taken away on the following circuit by Mayden. Mayden lost the lead on lap 14 to Cox but got back around him on lap 15. Mayden stayed in the lead the rest of the way. Cox was second while Mark Carrell took third.

IMCA Modifieds run for $1,000 to win Thursday at McLean County

UNDERWOOD, N.D. – McLean County Speedway brings Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds to Underwood Thursday night, Aug. 6, for a $1,000 to win main event. The 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier pays a minimum of $200 to start; the purse is based on 20 entries. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Belleville Motorsports North Central Region and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded. Passing points earned in heats will determine starting positions in the feature. The $50 entry fee includes the driver’s pit pass. Gates open at 4 p.m., the grandstand opens at 6 p.m., hot laps are at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. Spectator admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 4-14 and free for three and under. Abelson joins IMCA Modified 100 career win club

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Aug. 2) – One down, two to go. Chris Abelson checked off the first task on his 2015 to-do list Sunday night at Raceway Park, winning his 100th career Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature. Next up are repeating as champion of the Belleville Motorsports North Central Region and winning the national crown. “We hadn’t even realized we were that close to 100 wins, but I’m glad it’s done and out of the way,” admitted the Sioux City, Iowa, driver, who started cranking out the W’s in 2009 – his first full season in the division. “Now we can race for regional and national championships and see what happens.” He’d gotten career win number 99 the night before at Shelby County Speedway. IMCA Modifieds take top billing at Williston’s Can-Am Shootout

WILLISTON, N.D. – Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds race for $1,200 to win both nights of Williston Basin Speedway’s Friday and Saturday, Aug. 7-8 Can-Am Shootout. Rose tunes up for big shows with IMCA Modified win at Britt

By Greg Grabianowski BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 1) – Rob Rose tuned up for the upcoming specials at Hancock County Speedway by winning the Saturday feature for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. Rose made his way to the front of the 19-car field from outside row two. Runner-up was Ben Kraus and 12th starting Hunter Marriott was third. Calvin Lange earned his second local IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory of the summer, followed by Kevin Opheim and Ned Kalis. Hancock County win number five this season came for George Nordman in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. Nick Meyer was second and Nate Whitehurst finished third. Cody Nielsen topped the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main in front of Cory Gansen and Chanse Hollatz. Winner of the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature was Jesse Lunsford in his first trip to Britt.
