Hollatz wins IMCA Hobby Stock special at Algona

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 21) – It was hard not to see the smile on the face of Chanse Hollatz after winning the Water Connection IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock special Thursday at Kossuth County Speedway in Algona. Hollatz picked a great time to earn his first feature win at the oval since May 5, coming from outside of row two to accomplish the feat. Hollatz grabbed the lead immediately in the race and saw the caution flag fly on lap number when Jacob Kofoot touched the wall. The ugly yellow flag returned two laps later when Gary Pesicka spun out coming out of turn two. But only four lapped cars with six laps to go in the race, slowed down Hollatz’s trip into victory lane as he topped the 24-car field to take the first place prize money. Pre-registration has benefits at upcoming Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa – Pre-registration will have its benefits at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. While saving $20 by entering ahead of time, drivers can reserve pit parking and make themselves eligible for the Sept. 3 Prelude at Boone Speedway. Modified, Stock Car, Northern SportMod and Hobby Stock drivers must have completed pre-registration for the Sept. 5-10 Super Nationals prior to the deadline date in order to compete at the Saturday night Prelude special. Frontier Days shows feature $1,000 to win IMCA Modified mains

LOVELOCK, Nev. – A pair of $1,000 to win, Fast Shafts Allstar Invitational ballot qualifying features are on Friday, July 29 and Saturday, July 30 Frontier Day cards at Lovelock Speedway. Presenting the Nile Valley 40 lap features are the Nile Valley Race Club and Pershing County Rec Board. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Racing Western Region, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded for each show. Pit gates open at 4 p.m., the grandstand opens at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. both nights. Car and driver is $60 a day. Pit passes are $25. Des Moines hosts Friday night Deery Series show

DES MOINES, Iowa (July 26) – The Deery Brothers Summer Series is Des Moines bound for a July 29 event at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Friday’s feature for touring IMCA Late Models pays $2,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 4:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow. Spectator admission is $20 for adults or $15 with discount coupon available from any Casey’s General Store. Seniors and military are $18 or $13 with coupon, while youth are $10 and five and under get in free. Pit passes are $30. Jeff Aikey of Cedar Falls leads the Deery points race coming into the 10th of 16 events in the 30th annual series. Harris shows the way at Shenandoah

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (July 23) – Jerald Harris showed the way to the finish line in Saturday night’s Virginia Sprint Series feature at Shenandoah Speedway. Bill Rice and J.D. Coats paced the field to green with Rice out first as Harris made the quick outside pass to second. Rice stayed out front until lap three when Harris moved to the front, bringing along Tom Humphries and Ryan Price. Harris maintained the lead as laps clicked away and the front bunch pulling away. With the white flag waving, Harris got a few car lengths ahead but Price was all over Humphries, trying one last low charge but coming up short at the line. Feature results – 1. Jerald Harris; 2. County Fair show takes IMCA Hawkeye Dirt Tour to Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The seventh Hawkeye Dirt Tour event of the season takes touring Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds to Dubuque Speedway for the first time Tuesday night. The July 26 feature pays $1,200 to win, a minimum of $150 to start and is a qualifying event for the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Spectator admission is free with paid admission ($10 for adults) to the Dubuque County Fair. The grandstand is open all day and pit gates open at 4 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. Pit passes are $30. Wolfgram becomes first-time Modified winner at Boone

BOONE, Iowa (July 23) – Al Wolfgram grabbed his first career win in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified division Saturday at Boone Speedway. Veteran Robert Avery held the lead on lap one but by lap two, it was Wolfgram snatching it away. He soon had Jimmy Gustin coming at him on the top side fast and furiously. After several laps of side-by-side racing, Gustin momentarily took the top spot, only to have Wolfgram retake the lead by the time the next lap was scored. The chase continued with Gustin giving it his all in the attempt to get around the leader. Hitting a rut in corner one with just a couple of laps remaining, sent Gustin backwards and gave Wolfgram breathing room on his road to the checkers. Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational voting starts on Monday

VINTON, Iowa – The first round of voting for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational begins Monday afternoon. Two drivers from each of the five regions for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified regions will be voted onto the starting grid in electronic balloting that runs from July 25 through Friday, July 29. Eighteen more starters will be elected at large between Monday, Aug. 1 and Friday, Aug. 5. Completing the Friday, Sept. 9 All-Star field at Boone Speedway will be candidates with the highest national point total and the most 40-point feature wins competing at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s.
