Schafroth wins again at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (May 2) – Buck Schafroth was back in victory lane following Thursday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature at Stuart Speedway. Schafroth took the lead from Jeremy Gettler on lap four; second-running Todd VanEaton exited with mechanical issues on the 11th circuit, with Mike Nichols moving up to challenge. The race went green from there and Schafroth had his hands full as Nichols worked high and low trying to find a way around. After taking the white flag, Nichols seemed to set up a move down the backstretch and into turn three, but his car went up on two wheels in turn three and his shot at the win was over. Schafroth took the exciting victory with 17th starting Shawn Ritter sneaking by Nichols for second. Shannon Anderson topped an IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature that ran caution-free and Tyler Inman followed the lower line to the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod checkers.

May 3 show washed out at US 36

OSBORN, Mo. – Due to saturated grounds and more forecasted wet weather, US 36 Raceway officials have made the decision to cancel racing for Friday, May 3. The Sprint Series of Nebraska will take to the high banks, along with IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars on Friday, May 10. Pit gates open at 5 p.m., the grandstands open at 6 p.m., hot laps are at 7:30 p.m. and racing starts at 8 p.m.

Mother Nature wins at Lee County Speedway

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa – For the first time in 2019, Mother Nature has taken the checkered flag at the Pepsi Lee County Speedway in Donnellson. Heavy rains all week long has given the track crew no chance of getting on the race track to get it ready for Friday, May 3. Therefore, Brian and Marcie Gaylord have been forced to cancel the action, which was suppose to be presented by Buford Dozing and Excavating. Friday night’s action was scheduled to kick off the 2019 point season for the I-Smile Silver IMCA Late Models. But now that will have to wait until next Friday, May 10, as Darkside Tint & Graphix, Driftwood 13, and Buford Dozing and Excavating help to bring the action. Also on the card for Friday, May 10th will be the Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, Donnellson Tire & Service IMCA Stock Cars, Roberts Tire Center IMCA Northern SportMods and Discount Tire & Service IMCA Sport Compacts, all racing for track points. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m.

Flow Design renews awards for IMCA built engine drivers

WELLINGTON, Kan. – Flow Design has designated awards for drivers competing with built engines in five IMCA divisions this season. The Wellington, Kan., manufacturer and 12-year sponsor gives carburetor spacers to the top five built engine drivers in 2019 national point standings for IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Late Models, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods. GRT’s Joe Garrison passes away

GREENBRIER, Ark. – Joe Garrison of GRT Race Cars died Wednesday evening, May 1 after a battle with cancer. He was 60. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 6 at Crosspoint Baptist Church in Greenbrier with funeral services at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Thorn Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Katie, now being treated for a brain tumor at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., daughters Randa Jo (Litton) and Jolie, and two grandchildren. Garrison and his brother Mike founded the chassis building business in a two-car garage in the early 1980s. PLACERVILLE, Calif. (April 27) – The IMCA Modified driver who plans to make 2019 a learning season took his Donnie Tilford Tribute foes to school at Placerville Speedway. Danny Wagner led every lap of the 25-lap Saturday night main event, complementing his career first win in the division with a $1,500 check and a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational berth. “It was pretty great,” Wagner said following the first start of his third IMCA season. “I had Troy Foulger close behind me and could hear him all the way. And with the June event rapidly approaching, entries are now being accepted for the upcoming third annual Lubbock Wrecker Service-sponsored event.
