Thornton’s third Saturday win at Super Nationals is biggest of IMCA career

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 10) – Ricky Thornton Jr. rated his third win of the day Saturday at Boone Speedway as the biggest of his IMCA Modified career. After racing from 30th to first to win his IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s qualifying feature and start on the front of the outside row of the main event, Thornton won the Harris Auto Racing Race of Champions. He finished third behind Jimmy Gustin and Jeremy Mills in the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational, then ended the night by winning the Modified main event – and $7,000. “This is the biggest win of my career,” said Thornton, from Chandler and the second Arizona driver in Super Nationals history to earn the Modified crown. “To be one of the guys who has won this race is huge.” Thornton had won both the 100th feature of his IMCA career and the $10,001 to win Legendary at Dacotah Speedway earlier this season. Super Nationals race of champions events bring bragging rights

BOONE, Iowa – A season’s worth of bragging rights will be on the line Saturday, Sept. 10, when race of champions winners take their turn on stage at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. The winner of the 28th annual Harris Auto Racing Modified Race of Champions earns $1,000 while $500 is the top prize in the 16th annual Sunoco Race Fuels Race of Champions for Stock Cars. Both the BSB Manufacturing Race of Champions for Northern SportMods and Stephenville Starter Race of Champions for Hobby Stocks pay $300 to win. Those events will be held for the seventh time. SportMod and Hobby Stock ROC qualifying will be Tuesday, Sept. 6. Modified and Stock Car ROC qualifying is Friday, Sept. 9. Drivers eligible to qualify for their respective events include former national and Super Nationals champions and race of champions winners, 2016 track champions/point leader or the second-place driver if the leader is not in attendance.
