Holladay Scores Big Muscatine County Fair Race Win

By Jerry Mackey WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (July 23) – With the 2016 Muscatine County Fair in full swing, racing ac­tion took center stage on Saturday night at West Liberty Raceway. The iWireless IMCA Late Model 30-lap main saw Chad Holladay score his second consecutive feature win on a ½-mile dirt oval that was in pristine racing condition. Holladay advanced from a fourth row start, took the lead on lap 10 from Rob Moss and went on to score an impressive win Kevin Kile made a charge to the front late in the race to take second ahead of Kyle Hinrichs. The Performance Concepts IMCA Modifieds continue to delight the West Liberty Raceway faithful with great racing and Saturday night’s main was no exception as the 25-lapper saw several driv­ers take their turn at the front. Lange leads the way at Arlington 

ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 23) – Brad Lange rained on the parade of his B & B Racing Chassis IMCA Stock Car foes Saturday at Arlington Raceway. Lange took the lead from his front row spot and never looked back, leading the flag-to-flag race in its entirety for his first feature win of the year. Chad Schroeder followed close behind to take se­cond in the event rained out the previous week. Matt Schauer was third. The make-up 95.7 the Rock IMCA Sprint feature saw several yellow flags before Brandon Allen took the checkers. Iowan Michael Johnston led the first two laps ahead of Allen. Coming around for the third lap, John­ston lost power and ended up with a caution flag and into the pit area. Wedelstadt is king of the ring at Oshkosh

(July 22) – Mike Wedelstadt took command at the start and led all 20 laps of Friday’s King of the Ring feature for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds at Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway. Wedelstadt started on the front row and quickly took charge of the race. Following a quick lap two caution, Wedelstadt was chased by Paul Parker, Benji LaCrosse, Marcus Yarie, Brian Drexler and Steve Schneider. A debris caution bunched the field again on lap 10, and the field ran the next five laps before the final amber. During that span, Wedelstadt was on cruise in front leaving a tight battle for the next five spots. Parker, LaCrosse, Yarie, Drexler, Jeremy Christians and Dan Roedl ran in a bunch setting up a five lap sprint following the final restart. Wedelstadt was able to maintain a slight lead over the final five laps to secure his first local fea­ture win of the season, good for $1,000 and a spot on the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Pike prevails in Northern SportMod main at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (July 23) – Gunnar Pike motored to the NAPA IMCA Northern SportMod feature win and 108 kids went home with new bicycles on Kids’ Night Saturday at Eagle Raceway. Terry Callender was first back to the stand after one lap with Jeremy Noonan, James Hines and Sean Manning rounding out the top four. Joe Schidler vaulted all of the way into second the next time around as Noonan grabbed the lead. Pike put his ride into third on lap three and Brian Ostantowski took over fourth. Schidler grabbed the lead the next circuit. Pike took over second on lap seven and Ostantowski moved to third after an­other lap. James Roebuck cracked the top four the next time around. Pike managed to pass Schidler with five laps to go. Ostentowski and Roebuck also got past Schidler in the closing laps to make the final top four Pike, Ostentowski, Roebuck and Schidler. Flander takes first win Friday at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 22) – Eric Flander made his first visit to victory lane at Mar­shalltown Speedway this season following Friday’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature. Ryan King led the troops through the first handful of circuits in the 18-lapper but Curt Hilmer made his high line run pay off, taking over at lap six. When a yellow flew at lap 10 for visiting Australian racer Frank Packer, Hilmer still held the lead but had Sam Wieben in second to contend with. Flander was running third and when the race returned to green, got the drop on Wieben and raced up to challenge Hilmer. The two ran side-by-side for several laps until Flander was able to make the pass at lap 15. Ward wins again at Tri-City

AUBURN, Mich. (July 22) – A.J. Ward made another visit to victory lane following the Friday night Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified main event at Tri-City Motor Speedway. The father and son duo of Rusty Zeigler and Ken Zeigler, each of who won their respective heat races earlier in the evening, started on the front row for the 20-lap feature. Rusty Zeigler led the first three laps until Matt Szecsodi made his way by. Szecsodi was well in front of the field when the caution flag waved on lap 12. This allowed Ward, who had fought his way from 10th starting to second, to line up on Szecsodi’s rear bumper on the restart. Ward made what proved to be the winning pass on lap 14 and cruised to the checkered flag.  Szecsodi finished second ahead of Todd Matheson, Heath Grizzle and Ken Zeigler.

Hollatz wins IMCA Hobby Stock special at Algona 

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 21) – It was hard not to see the smile on the face of Chanse Hollatz after winning the Water Connection IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock special Thursday at Kossuth County Speedway in Algona. Hollatz picked a great time to earn his first feature win at the oval since May 5, coming from out­side of row two to accomplish the feat. Hollatz grabbed the lead immediately in the race and saw the caution flag fly on lap number when Ja­cob Kofoot touched the wall. The ugly yellow flag returned two laps later when Gary Pesicka spun out coming out of turn two. But only four lapped cars with six laps to go in the race, slowed down Hollatz’s trip into victory lane as he topped the 24-car field to take the first place prize money. Harris shows the way at Shenandoah 

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (July 23) – Jerald Harris showed the way to the finish line in Saturday night’s Vir­ginia Sprint Series feature at Shenandoah Speedway. Bill Rice and J.D. Coats paced the field to green with Rice out first as Harris made the quick out­side pass to second. Rice stayed out front until lap three when Harris moved to the front, bringing along Tom Humphries and Ryan Price. Harris maintained the lead as laps clicked away and the front bunch pulling away. With the white flag waving, Harris got a few car lengths ahead but Price was all over Humphries, trying one last low charge but coming up short at the line. Feature results – 1. Jerald Harris; 2. Wolfgram becomes first-time Modified winner at Boone

BOONE, Iowa (July 23) – Al Wolfgram grabbed his first career win in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified division Saturday at Boone Speedway. Veteran Robert Avery held the lead on lap one but by lap two, it was Wolfgram snatching it away.  He soon had Jimmy Gustin coming at him on the top side fast and furiously. After several laps of side-by-side racing, Gustin momentarily took the top spot, only to have Wolfgram retake the lead by the time the next lap was scored. The chase continued with Gustin giving it his all in the attempt to get around the leader.  Hitting a rut in corner one with just a couple of laps remaining, sent Gustin backwards and gave Wolfgram breathing room on his road to the checkers. Point leader Mike Van Genderen came from the 12th starting spot and worked his way to a se­cond-place finish.
