By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 29) – Cole Traugott, Robert Elliott, Michael Pepper and Matt O’Hair were Driver Appreciation Night feature winners at Dodge City Raceway Park. Traugott reeled off his fourth Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified win in his last four starts atop the 3/8-mile clay oval. He played the role of spoiler by taking the lead away from Jack Kirchoff just three laps shy of the checkered flag in the 20-lapper. The IMCA SportMods came down to the final laps as well with Elliott battling past Kale Roach just two laps from the end of the 20-lapper for his first DCRP win. In the 15-lap IMCA Stock Car feature, Pepper took advantage of a late caution to reel off his fifth consecutive win and seventh of the year overall. While Pepper tried to battle through the pack, it looked for much of the way that Ron Hartman would put a stop to the streak. Even when Pepper finally worked his way into second with five laps to go, Hartman’s lead seemed [Read More]
MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 29) – Marshalltown Speedway found new faces in Victory Lane on Friday night in the Modified and Hobby Stock divisions, while there were repeat winners in the Stock Cars and Northern SportMods. Jake Strayer took command from Gatlin Leytham on lap six of 20 circuits in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main but soon had Joel Rust to contend with. Rust, who started eighth, made the move around the topside of Strayer, taking the lead at lap eight. Rust then held that top spot to the checkers flying, securing the win. Strayer finished second, third went to eleventh starting Jacob Murray, Jimmy Gustin started 14th and finished fourth and Jenae Gustin was fifth. Rust won the Hawkeye Dirt Tour race on June 7 but this was his first regular season win at Marshalltown in 2016. A new winner came from the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock class when Leah Wroten scored her first victory at Marshalltown. Wroten, who started ninth, outran point leader Eric Stanton to grab the trophy. Following second-place Stanton was Gene Nicklas [Read More]
By Rick Stalely ATCHISON, Kan. The Stocks were deemed best of show by track officials with position no. 9 being drawn and Marvin Griffith Jr. picking up the extra cash. Bowers used a late-race caution to get past Nicholas Carpenter and cruise into victory lane, leaving Carpenter to finish second. Rodney Schweizer raced through the pack to finish third.
By Greg Aregoni LUXEMBURG, Wis. (July 29) – Two of the area’s best duked it out for the $600 top prize in Friday’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway. At the end of 20 laps it was Johnny Whitman outdueling Benji LaCrosse for the pay day. Whitman grabbed the top spot at the start and flew away from the field while LaCrosse and Jeremy Jacobs came to second and third from their mid-pack starting positions. A caution on lap five was the only break in the action. On the restart, Whitman stayed out front but had LaCrosse challenging immediately. Over the final 15 laps, LaCrosse tried every possible line around the 1/3-mile to get around Whitman. LaCrosse prepared to make one final move but contact with the wall coming to the white flag ended his chances at the win. Whitman was held up briefly on the final lap by a lapped car but still led LaCrosse past the line for his first win of the season. Jacobs finished third with Brad Lautenbach [Read More]

By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa (July 27) – Night two of the 63rd annual Dubuque County Fair included a night of spectacular stock car racing for the Julien Dubuque Classic. Five classes of cars were on the track being headlined by the Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Models. The 35-lap main event saw Tyler Droste continue his recent dominance of the 3/8-mile Dubuque Speedway. Droste led every lap but the race win was in doubt right to the checkered flag. Tyler Bruening caught Droste as the front runners worked through lapped traffic. Bruening was able to draw even with Droste on several occasions but Droste prevailed for a car length win. Justin Kay took third ahead of Charlie McKenna. The Merfeld Brothers Automotive IMCA Modified feature was another hotly contested battle as rookie Austin Moyer took a hard-fought win over Kay.
