Bloom scores huge win at Cottage Grove

(May 8) – Cottage Grove Speedway had the second round of Mother’s Day Weekend racing on Saturday, May 8 and the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods boasted a massive 27 cars in the pit area. The main event was a relatively caution-free affair of the 20-lap feature. Aaron Bloom secured the top place position on opening start and began to take off from the rest of the contingent. Two stoppages occurred through the course of the main event. The first yellow was on lap two, with the second and final one taking place on lap 11. The final caution bunched the field up close together and brought some challengers that threatened Bloom’s reign. Defending champ finds success at Grayson County

By Derrike Pennington BELLS, Texas (May 8) – Logan Scherb broke his cold streak and returned to 2020 form Saturday night, taking home his first Texas Sprint Series win of the season at Grayson County Speedway. Scherb charged to the front of the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car field after starting sixth, weaving through traffic wherever he could find an opening. Early in the race, front row starters Michael Day and Jeff Emerson thrilled fans racing wheel-to-wheel. Unfortunately, they got a little too close toward the end while chasing Scherb and brought out a late-race caution which sent Emerson to the rear. Chance McCrary and Michelle Parson each brought home their season best finishes with McCrary holding strong up front all race and coming home in second and a plus-five charge from Parson putting her in third. Olson aces opener at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (May 8) – Opening night at Arlington Raceway saw 128 cars in action and Matt Olson in victory lane after the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock lidlifter. Mason Goettl led the first few laps from his front row starting spot before defending national and track champion Cory Probst, who had started 12th, came calling. Olson had been picking off cars and got around Probst following a restart to take over the lead and led the remaining laps to win the race. Probst took second and Goettl took third. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature did not disappoint. Jeff Larson started in the third row and going into turn two got around five cars to take the lead. He and Brent Uecker then raced side-by-side for several laps. IMCA Stock Cars join Modifieds on four Eastern Allstar dates in Michigan

VESTABURG, Mich. – A state that’s already a hotbed for IMCA Modifieds hosts its first-ever IMCA Sunoco Stock Car dates on four Wednesday night race programs this season. Eastern IMCA Allstar shows see the Modifieds and Stock Cars at Crystal Motor Speedway on May 12, at Thunderbird Raceway in Muskegon on June 23, at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa on July 28 and at Winston Speedway in Rothbury on Aug. 25. Sewell becomes first Oil Capital repeat winner

(May 8) – Alex Sewell took the early lead away from pole sitter Whit Gastineau and became the season’s first repeat AmeriFlex/Oil Capital Racing Series IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature winner Saturday at Salina Highbanks Speedway. The 2018 series champion led most of the way around the high banked 3/8’s mile oval while a battle raged behind him for second. Casey Wills, Gastineau, Ty Williams were battling before a red flag waved after 11 laps. That changed the complexion of the race. Steven Shebester worked his way into second with Gastineau holding on to third. Jase Randolph finished fourth and Jake Martens ended up where he started with fifth place. Feature results – 1. Drake delivers IMCA Modified win at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (May 8) – Second generation driver Trevor Drake came from his fifth starting spot and made it look easy Saturday night at The Quick-Quarter of Springfield Raceway in grabbing his first IMCA Modified feature win. Drake took to the high side and went for a Saturday night cruise, besting current track point leader James Thompson to become the third different feature winner in The Bad Boy Mower IMCA Modified division out of five races held so far this season. Other feature winners so far has been Thompson with two wins and Steven Bowers Jr. with two wins at Jerry Hoffman’s speed plant, which produces three-wide racing almost every Saturday night. Following Drake to the stripe were Thompson, Bobby Pearish, Jackie Dalton and Shawn Duncan. Last week’s runner up Jimmy Greenway slipped late in the race to finish sixth.

Muenster checks out at Shawano

By Dave Buss SHAWANO, Wis. (May 8) – An IMCA Modified driver who’s been around the track a time or two led the way to the checkers Saturday at Shawano Speedway. Eddie Muenster simply checked out and dominated to the win while Konnor and Jerry Wilinski battled with Jordan Bartz and Kevin Feck for the runner-up spot with positions changing hands lap after lap. Marcus Yarie, fighting mechanical issues all night, had been regulated to the 21st starting position in the feature. Yarie and his crew made the right decisions to get the car right as he drove to the top five. When everything settled out it would be Muenster victorious with Jerry Wilinski grabbing second from his son Konnor. Yarie was fourth with Bartz fifth. Restart opens door for Strand at Mandan

By Rebecca Rattei MANDAN, N.D. (May 7) – Shawn Strand took advantage of a restart in winning the IMCA Modified feature on a chilly Friday night at Dacotah Speedway. Fans packed the grandstands and saw veteran Marlyn Seidler, coming back from a rollover the previous week, in the lead early. He pulled away early before a caution erased his large lead over second place Strand. On the restart, Strand flew by on the highside, leaving Seidler to fend off third place Quentin Kinzley. It didn’t take long for the leaders to start catching lapped traffic. Using the slower cars to his advantage, Kinzley slipped by Seidler for second. A late-race caution erased Strand’s large lead over the field. On the final restart of the race, Jeremy Keller slipped by Seidler for third as Mark Dahl had his hands full with a speedy Spencer Wilson. 178 cars for night one at Outagamie Speedway

(May 7) – One hundred and seventy-eight racers checked in to do battle at Outagamie Speedway Friday night, among them 38 IMCA Modifieds, 39 IMCA Stock Cars, 39 IMCA Sport Mods, 33 IMCA Sport Compacts and 29 Unified Street Stocks. Defending IMCA Sunoco Stock Car champion Eric Arneson paced the opening lap until former national champion Travis Van Straten took the top spot. Tim Warner cleared the Arneson machine for the runner-up position and set his sights on Van Straten. Warner went to work on the outside groove, pulling past Van Straten and to the lead. Van Straten came roaring back as the duo traded the lead over the next several laps. With two laps remaining, Warner gained the edge he needed to score his first-ever IMCA Stock Car feature win. Braaten, Bryant top Cottage Grove features

By Stephanie Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (May 7) – Jorddon Braaten and Burnie Bryant were IMCA winners Friday at Cottage Grove Speedway. For the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods, Trevor Points got to the front at the drop of the initial green flag. Points was the trailblazer until lap seven, when Braaten passed him for the lead. However, the pass would be negated as there was a caution before the field completed the lap. Braaten successfully made it back to front on the restart to grab the position on lap eight. Braaten took care of the business the rest of the way to win for the first time in 2021 at Cottage Grove Speedway. Aaron Bloom ended the event second with Trevor Point taking home third. Doug Coffman and Steve Hopkins were fourth and fifth, respectively.
