Becerra remains perfect at Lee County Speedway

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (May 7) – Austen Becerra raced to his third Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature wins in as many Friday night starts this season at Lee County Speedway. Ryan Moore and Brandon Lambert led the field to the drop of the green flag. Lambert paced lap one over Logan Cumby, who started sixth, and Jim Gillenwater, who started eighth. Gillenwater slid past on lap three to take over the top spot. Sean Wyett slipped by Gillenwater to take the lead on lap five only to have Gillenwater get him back on lap seven. On a restart, Becerra charged around the top of Gillenwater to grab the lead and started to pull away. The field was brought back to Becerra’s back bumper on lap 15 for the final restart of the race. First $250 Sunoco bonus of season paid Wednesday to IMCA Late Model winner at Farley

FARLEY, Iowa – The payday is bumped up for the winner of Wednesday’s opening night main event for IMCA Sunoco Late Models at 300 Raceway. The first $250 Sunoco Race Fuels bonus of the season will be paid to the May 12 Late Model winner at Farley, making the top check a cool $850. Sunoco bonuses will be presented at Late Model sanctioned tracks again this year. Drivers are eligible for one bonus during the 2021 racing season.  IMCA will announce mid-week before the dates bonuses are to be awarded at each track.  The grandstand at Farley is open and general admission is $10 for adults, with race fans 12 & under and seniors 70 & older getting in free. Hot laps are scheduled to take to the track at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow at 7 pm.

Evans lives dream playing college baseball and racing an IMCA Stock Car in Kansas

McPHERSON, Kan. – Opportunities to study sports management and play baseball got Boone Evans interested in attending a Kansas college seven-plus hours from his Bullard, Texas home. What sealed the deal was that he’d get to race three times every weekend while he was doing it.  Evans, a freshman relief pitcher at McPherson College in central Kansas, has been a weekly regular at Salina Speedway, RPM Speedway in Hays and at Concordia High Banks, where he earned his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car career-first feature win on April 25. “It’s a dream life. Murty tops star-studded field at CJ Speedway

By Jerry Mackey  COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (May 7) – Friday provided another thrilling night of racing at CJ Speedway.   The headliner of the night was the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature which had the fans on the edge of their seats as the non-stop feature saw a pack of 10 drivers in the early going trying to all battle to the front.  Dallon Murty made a rare appearance at CJ, started 12th and joined the gaggle of drivers in the charge to the front. Murty broke out of the pack by overtaking early leader Dustin Griffiths as the 20 lap main event passed the midway point.  Murty stretched the lead as the battle for second was waged again involving several drivers. Beckendorf gets opening night win at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (May 6) – Brandon Beckendorf added another $1,000 IMCA Modified feature win to his early season tally on opening night Thursday at Kossuth County Speedway.  Beckendorf started on the pole, took the lead immediately and was g-o-n-e, building a half straightway lead before an ugly yellow flag on lap 13. On the restart, Beckendorf, already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, took the lead again and fought off a late challenge from a hard-charging Nick Meyer to earn the big payday. Meyer was the runner-up followed by Jeremy Mills. Kelly Shryock placed fourth and Austin Wolf rounded out the top five.  Gerald Curry and Matt Looft led the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod field to the flagstand for the green flag. Olson races to 50th Benton County win

VINTON, Iowa – Just three weeks shy of the 16th anniversary of his first feature win, Tony Olson celebrated another milestone at the Benton County Speedway Bullring. Olson, who earned his first win in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods presented by Christie Door Company on May 30, 2005, parked his #T23 in victory lane in Vinton for the 50th time Sunday night. Brandon Tharp assumed the early command from his second row start and paced the field throughout the 15-lapper. Meanwhile, Olson raced from the sixth row and into contention by midway. He restarted outside Kyle Olson in row two on a pair of restarts and quickly applied pressure to Tharp. Running the top groove, Tony Olson wrestled the lead away from Tharp and escaped with the win, leaving a handful of drivers to fight behind him for runner-up honors. Roberts dominates Bill Davis Memorial at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, IA (May 5) – The Bill Davis Memorial and a pair of make-up features highlighted Wednesday night action at Stuart Speedway. Nick Roberts and Scott Bash started on the front row of the IMCA Modified feature. Roberts led early with Josh Gilman powering into second on lap three.  Gilman worked high and low but it was not to be as Roberts took the dominating win.  Gilman tangled with a lapped car on the final lap giving second place to Bash. Third was Kyle Brown with Shane DeVolder fourth and David Brown fifth. Dallon and Damon Murty led the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars to the green flag with Dallon taking the lead on lap one. New promotional team sets the bar high at Southern Oregon

WHITE CITY, Ore. – The bar will be set high at Southern Oregon Speedway. Idle for all of 2020, the 3/8-mile dirt oval at White City re-opens with a new promotional team in place and both IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods on race night programs.  Just seven weeks will separate Travis Hoppes and the Southern Oregon Motorsports team from being having been selected to operate the track to opening night on May 29. IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods will run on select Friday and regular Saturday race programs through Sept. 18. “We want this to be the number one facility on the West Coast,” Hoppes said, in the midst of extensive facility-wide improvements. “We want to make everything here look good and we want to show our drivers and fans that we care.” Built as a 3/8-mile oval, the track has been extended and reshaped to its original configuration. Richards quick to find 2021 IMCA Stock Car success

By Greg Soukup LINCOLN, Neb. – Cade Richards, the 2019 IMCA national Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod rookie of the year, spent most of 2020 competing in his SportMod and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car. To say that he’s starting off the 2021 season well in the Stock Car would be an understatement. He kicked off the year with a pair of third-place finishes, then brought it home in the top spot twice. On Friday, April 23 Richards made the trip to Salina Speedway. Starting his heat from the inside of the third row, he took the checkers. Raucci victorious at Mohave Valley Raceway

By Stephanie Deatherage  MOHAVE VALLEY, Ariz. (May 1) – After several weeks off, Mohave Valley Raceway roared back to life on Saturday and Vinny Raucci Jr. raced to the IMCA Modified feature win. Raucci wasted no time in getting out front on the initial start of the 25-lap main event.  He had to deal with several restarts and some pressure from Frank Russell Jr.  Raucci mastered what proved to be the final restart and went on to win his first race at Mohave Valley this year.  He is the sixth different driver to win in seven races in the IMCA Modifieds in 2021 at MVR.     Russell held onto second while Ryan Cotrell took third. Rick Durica and Ronnie Meyer Jr., completed the top five.
