Late race heroics lift Dotson to CGS Wild West Shootout checkers

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 26) – Ethan Dotson rolled the dice and came up a $1,000 Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout winner Tuesday at Cottage Grove Speedway. Four-time and defending tour champion Jesse Williamson quickly got to the front at the start of the main event and looked to make it two straight wins at the famed quarter-mile oval. Williamson set a rapid pace and seemed to be the class of the field before an extremely long green flag run brought lapped traffic into the mix. Danny Lauer reeled in Williamson and looked to challenge, but couldn’t quite get underneath the leader. A lap 33 caution regrouped the field one last time. Mid-season championships are Saturday at Dodge City

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – The crossed flags are within sight as Dodge City Raceway Park reaches the midway point of the 2018 season with Saturday night’s mid-season championships atop the 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas. The June 30 Saturday’s tilt that goes green at 7:30 p.m. will include a full card of championship chase action including the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Tickets are $15 for adults while children 11 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult. Pit passes are $30. July 4 Shootout at Texarkana 67 pays IMCA Modified winner $2,000

TEXARKANA, Ark. – IMCA Modifieds chase a $2,000 top check next Wednesday at Texarkana 67 Speedway’s 4th of July Shootout special. A minimum of $100 will be paid to start the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods are also on the card. A fireworks display follows the race program. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Jet Racing Central Region, Arkansas State and track points will be awarded. There is no entry fee for either IMCA division and pit passes are $30. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors 62 and over and military, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under. Pit gates and the grandstand open at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 7 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. More information is posted on Facebook.

Second half of season starts Saturday at Perris

By Scott Dalaiso PERRIS, Calif. – For the second time in the month of June, the PASSCAR Stock Car Series, featuring IMCA Modifieds, will be at Perris Auto Speedway. The Saturday, June 30 show marks the start of the second half of the season for the cars at the famous Riverside County 1/2-mile clay oval. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. and the first race will be at 7 p.m. Cory Sample, who lives in Winnemucca, Nev., and makes the nearly 1,200-mile round trip to Southern California to race at Perris, has a 31-point lead in the IMCA Modified point standings. Sample, who picked up his second Perris win at the last race on June 2, has only finished out of the top three one time in the first seven races of the year. That came in May when he finished 11th after contact with another car. In the other six races he has two wins, a couple second place finishes and a pair of thirds. Chuck Becker is second in points with Terry Hershberger third.

$5 wristband admission Saturday at Bethany

By Rick Staley BETHANY, Mo, – Bethany Speedway is the place to be this Saturday, June 30 for Toot Toot Family Restaurant and Lounge Night at the Races. A grandstand wristband from US 36 Raceway the night before gets fans grandstand admission at Bethany for only $5. Divisions in action include the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. Intermission sees a watermelon eating contest for kids and kids at heart with prizes given throughout the crowd. The green flag drops at 8 p.m.

Eibach Springs marks decade of sponsorship with contingency awards in six IMCA divisions

Breaking news for US 36 Sprint Car drivers

By Rick Staley OSBORN, Mo. – Attention all IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car drivers at US 36 Raceway … in a continued effort to get more Sprint Cars at the track, the following changes will take effect immediately: *IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars will pay $650 to win and $250 to start the Feature. *All IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car restarts will now be single file after the initial green flag start, no more Delaware Double File Restarts. *The entry cutoff time for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars will be moved from 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. for all those traveling a long distance after work. Defending champion is fourth different Wild West Modified Shootout winner

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 25) – The latest installment of the 2018 Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout ended with the fourth different winner in as many events. Four-time and defending tour champion Jesse Williamson topped Monday’s feature at Cottage Grove Speedway. The $1,000 victory was his tour career 11th and third at Cottage Grove, and came despite the best efforts of challenger Bricen James. The new Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot candidate seized the early lead and took off right from the get-go. Williamson was tracked down and passed on lap 14 by James, who lost the lead to Williamson on the following circuit. Shortly after a lap 21 restart, James made a pass Williamson again and the battled hard the rest of the way. Williamson regained the coveted top spot on lap 26 and held off James at the line for the victory. James was followed across the stripe by John Campos, “B” qualifier Grey Ferrando and Curtis Towns was fifth. Forty entries from five states and Canada necessitated three consolation features. Dates determined for two Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational voting sessions

BOONE, Iowa – Dates have been announced for two voting sessions to elect 28 of the 30 starters in the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Three drivers from each of the five regions for IMCA Modifieds will be elected in polling conducted between July 23 and 26; another 13 advance from an at-large pool of the next 25 top vote recipients between July 30 and Aug. 2. All voting will be conducted through the IMCA Facebook page. One hundred and nineteen drivers (listed on page 10 of this month’s newsletter) are already vote eligible for the 15th annual Invitational, to be held Sept. 7 during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s at Boone Speedway. Clough delivers at Dawson County

LEXINGTON, Neb. (June 24) – Lining up on the outside of the front row was the launching pad Brandon Clough used to run away and hide from the rest of the IMCA Modified field Sunday at Dawson County Raceway. Clough rode the cushion and built up a comfortable lead during the non-stop action. Anthony Roth was second and David Murray Jr. third. Mike Nichols scored another IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory and Jacob Olmstead collected his third straight feature win in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division. Luke Wassom raced from fourth row starting to finish first in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock headliner.
