$44,250 in Chevrolet Performance bonuses paid to IMCA crate engine track champions

GRAND BLANC, Mich. – Chevrolet Performance bonuses totaling $44,250 have been paid to IMCA drivers who won track championships while competing exclusively with crate engines in 2019. In all, 177 IMCA Modified, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMod drivers received $250 checks, mailed this month from the IMCA home office. This was the third season in the latest three-year bonus agreement with Chevrolet Performance, which has now awarded more than $325,000 to eligible drivers over the course of the crate engine track championship program. Tough competition sharpens Svoboda in battle for top Jet Racing Central Region rookie honors

DAVID CITY, Neb. – Wanting to be the best, Austin Svoboda raced against the best much of the season and was rewarded for his efforts with rookie of the year honors in IMCA’s Jet Racing Central Region for Modifieds. The David City, Neb., driver enjoyed a successful Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod career before making 44 starts in his freshman Modified campaign. He ran with national champion Jordan Grabouski on 27 of those nights and with regional runner-up Anthony Roth on 30 occasions. “I felt like I had accomplished everything I wanted to in a SportMod and that I was good enough to race a Modified. IMCA junior national championship announced for 2020

VINTON, Iowa – IMCA’s first junior national champion will be crowned in 2020. Drivers between the ages of 13 and 18 in all eight IMCA divisions will compete for the title, with point standings to be based on the best 20 finishes in their first 40 starts. The junior national champion will be given the same accolades as national champions in each of those divisions during the IMCA awards banquet in November and receive a trophy, ring and jacket. Top 10 drivers in junior national champion point standings each receive $500 scholarships applicable toward post-high school education in the first year of the program. Scholarship funds will be paid when drivers register for their first year of higher education. “This is something we’ve wanted to do for a while. IMCA state champions receive Eibach awards

CORONA, Calif. – State champions in six IMCA divisions have received post-season awards from Eibach Springs. All 80-plus drivers winning IMCA Modified, IMCA Late Model, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMod state champions received $100 product certificates from the Corona, Calif., manufacturer. Six randomly selected state championship-winning drivers received sets of four springs. Those drivers are Kelsie Foley, Modifieds in Arizona; Dalton Simonsen, Late Models in Iowa; Austin Brauner, Stock Cars in Nebraska; Marc Minutolo, Hobby Stocks in New York; Luke Stallbaumer, Northern SportMods in Kansas; and Taylor Florio, Southern SportMods in Texas. McBirnie’s Arizona Tour success kicks off Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod campaign

BOONE, Iowa – Jake McBirnie traveled to the sunny Southwest in February, looking forward to warm weather, having fun and doing a little racing. He did all that and then some, kicking off a successful 2019 Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod campaign with the Arizona Tour title. “Having success down there was great,” said McBirnie, who won three of the seven tour features. “The car was super fast.” Those checkers came at Arizona Speedway, Central Arizona Speedway and in the finale at USA Raceway. McBirnie tied with Brady Bjella in the points race and got the title nod on the basis of those three victories. “Our first win was on the second night of the tour. Southern SportMod ace Egbert collects Red River Tour honors, first track crown

SALADO, Texas – Trevor Egbert was every bit as fast on the road as he was at his home track. The Salado, Texas driver picked up a pair of victories on his way to winning the Red River Tour for Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods and traveled to Cardinal Speedway in July to top the main event at the Kelly Sheen Memorial. And six of his 10 feature wins this season came at Cotton Bowl Speedway, where he earned a career-first track title. “We had a good year racing,” summarized Egbert. “The tour was just the right number of races. And we had some luck early on. BLOOMFIELD, N.M. – Rex Higgins first saw Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods in action at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Impressed, the long-time and highly successful IMCA Sunoco Stock Car driver promised himself he’d give the division a try if it ever migrated to his home state of New Mexico. Fast forward to 2019: The now fifth-year Northern SportMod driver from Bloomfield won once and finished in the top five in another seven events in earning the championship of the division’s inaugural Wild West Tour. “We decided to follow the series shortly after the schedule was announced in January. Simonsen scores Summer Series rookie, IMCA Late Model state champion awards

FAIRFAX, Iowa – Dalton Simonsen recalled going to Andy Eckrich’s shop as a kid, then working there part-time during his high school and college days. The memories he made this summer were racing with the eventual tour champion and earning rookie of the year in the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series. “I used to go to Deery events with my friends. Now it’s cool that I’m racing in them,” said Simonsen, who made the move to the IMCA Late Model division after five seasons in a Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod. Consistency, setups key in Eckrich’s run to IMCA Summer Series championship

OXFORD, Iowa – Team Eckrich can finally add a Deery Brothers Summer Series championship to its resume. 2010 series rookie of the year and 2011 runner-up Andy Eckrich raced to the IMCA Late Model tour crown, complementing a feature win at West Liberty Raceway with a trio of second-place outings. “We have been going for this. We ran consistently, we had good setups and we got it done,” Eckrich said. “My dad (Larry) is 74 and he’s had drivers win a lot of series and a lot of big races but never a Deery championship. Time in shop puts Henderson on top of Wild West IMCA Stock Car Tour podium

DRAPER, Utah – Being the only repeat winner and staying consistent made Ed Henderson champion of the first annual Wild West Tour for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Being prepared when he got to the track made that title, and Sweetwater Speedway and E3 Spark Plugs Wyoming State crowns, possible. From Draper, Utah, Henderson won features at Diamond Mountain Speedway and Sweetwater and ran in the top five in six of nine tour starts. His season-long statistics show seven wins in 28 starts, at eight different tracks in six states. “I like to be ready when I get to the track.
