Urbana 5, Iowa Donor Network Night July 5 at Benton County

VINTON, Iowa – Four IMCA divisions take their turn on the track during Benton County Speedway’s Urbana 5 Memorial/Iowa Donor Network Night on Sunday, July 5.  Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods run for $1,000 to win that evening. IMCA Modifieds chase a $700 top check while IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars run for $400 to win and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $300. Additional sponsorship money and awards are to be announced. There will be prizes for fans and a bike giveaway for kids as well. There is no entry fee for any division. Pit gates at The Bullring open at 3 p.m. with racing at 5 p.m. Spectator admission is $14 for adults, $11 for seniors and students, and free for kids five and under. Pit passes are $25 for adults and $14 for 13 and under. The Urbana 5 Memorial/Iowa Donor network show will be broadcast by IMCA.TV.

Wayman handles Eagle SportMod foes

(June 27) – Cole Wayman got the lead on lap seven and drove to the Karl Kustoms North­ern SportMod checkers Saturday at Eagle Raceway.  Wayman had cracked the top four on the fourth circuit and the top three the next time around. The final caution of the Star Spangled Showdown show came with six laps left and while Matt Andrews was the mn on the move, he had to settle for third behind Wayman and Mike Scheinost.  Toby Chapman was the fourth and final leader in the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature, beating Adam Gullion and Ryan King to the checkers.  Other winners were Jordan Grabouski in the IMCA Modifieds, Jeff Ware in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Dillon Richards in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts.  Next weekend is Eagle Raceway’s annual Fourth of July Freedom Fest. There will be a Red, White and Blue Challenge at intermission with the area’s largest fireworks display following the final feature. Front gates open at 5 p.m.

Bethany checkers fly for Stallbaumer

(June 27) – With a new running order every time around the oval, Tim Stallbaumer was the leader of the 15th and final circuit of Saturday’s Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature at Bethany Speedway. Stallbaumer found his way to the front and never looked back as he picked up the win from the eighth starting spot. Tim Eaton held the lead for a few laps about mid-race and finished second. Steven Clancy and Chris Wright stayed in close contact the entire race and finished third and fourth, respectively.  The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature started with Mich Ross and Steve Starmer on the front row. Svoboda goes from bottom to the top at Off Road Speedway

(June 27) – Seven days ago, Justin Svoboda’s no. 16 Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod was pictured beneath the no. 22 car of Tim Swartz on the front straightaway at Off Road Speedway.  Just a week later, Svoboda was celebrating his first SportMod win at the track, a big moment during what has been a difficult season.  “We’ve had a rough go of it so far. This is my ninth night of racing and this is only the fifth race that I’ve finished,” Svoboda said. “We’ve been fighting a lot of issues and trying to get this new car headed in the right direction, and it looks like it’s starting to go that way. It went pretty good tonight, sort of a change from zero to hero. Marolf masters IMCA Late Model field at Drive For 5

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (June 26) – Round two of Pepsi Lee County Speedway’s Shottenkirk Parts Ex­press Drive For 5 ended with Nick Marolf taking home $1,000.  Marolf and Andy Nezworski drew the front row for the 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature, and Marolf used the draw to his advantage by leading lap one over Dustin Griffin and Nezworski.  While Marolf paced the field out front, Griffin and Nezworski battled side-by-side on numerous occasions for the runner-up spot. On lap 13, Nezworski got by Griffin for the spot and went to work on Marolf for the lead. Late lapped traffic, however, allowed Marolf to pull away for his first win of the season at Donnell­son. Roberts is Super on Saturday at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (June 27) – Boone Speedway held its first Super Saturday of the 2020 season Saturday night.  Nick Roberts took home the $1,000 prize in the IMCA Modified division as well as securing a berth on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.  The Modifieds ran a 30-lap main event and Roberts led all of them to take the checkers in convincing fashion.  He finished comfortably ahead of Tim Ward.  Ethan Braaksma ran at the front of the pack all race long and finished third. Extra money was also on the line for the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and it was Johnathon Logue taking home that $750 prize. Donavon Smith won his second local IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature of the season and his nephew Mike Smith took the checkers in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Simonsen, Everts race to first wins at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 26) – Two drivers earned first feature wins on a busy Friday night at  Marshalltown Speedway, Dalton Simonsen in the IMCA Sunoco Late Models and Kyle Everts in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars.  Kaden Reynolds doubled up in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.  Make-up features were also won by Darrel DeFrance, Late Model, Joel Rust in the IMCA Modifieds and Brian Schrage in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. Mather makes it three straight at Indee

By Jerry Mackey INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 27) – Cole Mather continued his mastery of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division by scoring his third consecutive feature win at Independence Motor Speedway on Saturday night. Tom Schmitt led early before settling for second to Mather.  Chris Simpson wheeled the Doug Cue-owned IMCA Modified to a hard-fought feature win. Simpson took the lead near the halfway mark from Kolin Hibdon. Brennen Chipp raced amongst the leaders the entire 20 laps in taking second at the checkers ahead of Hibdon.  Several drivers took their turn at the point in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature. Kip Siems was able to slip by race leader Kyle Olson and go on to pick up the victory. Nate Smith followed Olson across the line in third.  Kaden Reynolds added another feature win to his already outstanding 2020 race season in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Reynolds raced under the checkers ahead of Tyler Olliendieck and Brett Vanous.

‘B’ main to victory lane for Michonski on Hall of Fame Night

(June 27) – The fans that came out in droves for Hall of Fame Night at Shawano Speedway enjoyed a hall of fame caliber performance from Dan Michonski Saturday night.  After qualifying from a ‘B’ feature, Michonski started 17th and hustled all the way to the front of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature field. Baumli up to challenge at Doyle Lance Remembrance Race

By Jacob Blair  OSBORN, Mo. (June 26) – When the big money is on the line, it is historically J.J. Baumli al­ways challenging to run away with the winner’s check. However, for the Doyle Lance Remem­brance Race for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, it looked as though Mich Ross and Connor Ma­soner would be the one’s battling for the trophy.  Ross led more than half of the 20-lap feature, with Masoner in his tire tracks. With a few laps to go, Masoner got a run on Ross and the two made contact. Both drivers left the track with flat tires and Baumli inherited the lead and the eventual win. Chad Clancy, making his first appearance in a Stock Car this season, finished in the second posi­tion.
