Griffiths scores first win of season at CJ

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (June 4) – After a three-week hiatus due to wet weather, racing finally resumed at CJ Speedway. The headliner of the night was the 20-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature, which saw 18 drivers take the initial green flag. The race was paced early by Stan O’Brian, who held the field at bay until three laps to go when Dustin Griffiths was able to make a move in turn three for the lead using the high line. Griffiths raced to the checkers ahead of O’Brian and defending track champion Adam Bell. The IMCA Modified feature produced a very popular win for CJ regular Dan “Stumpy” Brockert. Last year, Brockert raced in the SportMod class and the season produced one win. The move up into the Modified class has been a good one for Brockert as he has a win under his belt in the early part of the season. Osborn debut for United Rebel Sprints see Russell earn Budweiser Shootout checkers

OSBORN, Mo. (June 4) – Nineteen IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars were in attendance for Friday’s POWRi Drive to Zero United Rebel Sprint Series debut at Missouri’s US 36 Raceway and Jay Russell was the $1,000 Budweiser Shootout winner. Russell and Jack Potter set the pace for the 25-lap feature, with Russell powering to the lead before a trio of early cautions. Excellent side-by-side action followed amongst the top three cars, as Stuart Snyder slid to the high side with Russell and Kenny Potter just to the inside while Ty Williams began his march forward, moving into fourth. Potter and Snyder dueled for the runner-up position behind Russell as Williams and Mike Houseman Jr. challenged for fifth. Potter moved to second and began a charge on Russell before taking the lead. Snyder moved into second around the high side, but not for long as Russell motored back by Snyder and Potter. Auto King IMCA Modified special at Batesville pays $1,500 to win

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The IMCA Modified king or queen of Batesville Motor Speedway’s Auto King Modified Madness show takes home the top check of $1,500. The Friday, June 11 special at Batesville is a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier and pays a minimum of $75 to start. There is no entry fee and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars are also on the card. Pit passes are $35. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-11 and free for five and under. 36 IMCA Stock Car drivers eligible to qualify, two more guaranteed B & B Chassis All-Star starts

VINTON, Iowa – Thirty-six drivers are eligible to qualify for, and two are guaranteed starting spots in the inaugural B & B Chassis All-Star race for Stock Cars at the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Trip east ends with Ward’s win at Sean Lias Memorial

(June 1) – After opening night of the NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series was postponed two days, a Michigan driver making the 10-hour tow won the inaugural Sean Lias Memorial at Penn Can Speedway and $1,037. A.J. Ward, a three-time champion in the Dirt Works East Region, raced his way back to the front in winning the inaugural event held in honor of the eight-time regional champion from Pennsylvania. “This is the first memorial event that I’ve won,” Ward said following his ninth checkers of the season and career 128th victory. “It was special that this race was for Sean, with the history he had.” The win was also Ward’s career first in Pennsylvania. Round 2 takes NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series to The Hill

MONROETON, Pa. (June 4) – Round two of the NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series is tonight (Friday) at The Hill Speedway, with a top check of $750 on the line. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. with practice at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. Registration opens at 5:45 p.m. and closes when the drivers’ meeting starts. Pit passes are $30 and the IMCA registration fee is $20. IMCA sponsors Bob Harris Enterprises, Wilwood and PEM give certificate or product awards. The IMCA Modifed portion of the program is sponsored tonight by Lamphere’s Truck Parts and Insinger Racing Fuels. The feature pays a minimum of $75 to start.

$250 Sunoco bonus highlights races in Dubuque this Sunday night

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Extra money is on the line for the winner of Sunday’s main event for IMCA Sunoco Late Models at Dubuque Speedway. The fourth $250 Sunoco Race Fuels bonus of the season will be paid to the June 6 Late Model winner in Dubuque. Sunoco bonuses will be presented at Late Model sanctioned tracks again this year. Drivers are eligible for one bonus during the 2021 racing season. Winners so far this year are Matt Ryan at 300 Raceway in Farley, followed by Sean Johnson at Independence Motor Speedway and Andy Eckrich last Saturday night at 34 Raceway in West Burlington. IMCA will announce mid-week before the dates bonuses are to be awarded at each track. The grandstand opens at 4 p.m. and general admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 65 and over, $6 for students 13-17, and 12 and under get in free with a paid adult. Karl Companies highlight IMCA support with Super Nationals crate engine awards

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Karl Companies’ season-long support for IMCA drivers in five divisions is again highlighted with awards given at the premier event in all of dirt track racing, the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Karl Kustoms provides a portion of the $9,500 point fund to be paid to top 10 drivers in national point standings for Northern SportMods for a 16th consecutive season.
