Defending All Star Shootout champion Pirkle prevails in Kennedale IMCA Modified feature

KENNEDALE, Texas (May 28, 2022) – His consistent finishes got Jacob Pirkle the 2021 All Star Shootout title. A convincing flag-to-flag run at the front of the field got him a $1,500 Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature win in the 25-lap Shootout show Saturday night at Kennedale Speedway Park. “This is my home track, I started on the front row and I thought I had a lot to prove. Tonight was very good for us,” said Pirkle, who was running in heavy lapped traffic before halfway and was not challenged after the second of back-to-back restarts on lap 18. “I really wanted a win and tonight we got it. The track really played in my favor. I like a little cushion.” Chris Morris took the runner-up spot from Tanner Whitmire on lap 20 and finished just over a second behind Pirkle at the finish. Steven Whiteaker Jr., Whitmire and Larry Adams completed the top five.  Pirkle started racing a Southern SportMod at KSP; he’s in his third Modified season there now.  “I had no idea [Read More]

Other IMCA winners during the evening at Osborn were Mike Nichols, Tim Eaton and Dillon Raffurty. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars never disappoint and this night would be no different as a blanket could cover the field of competitors doing battle.  Conner Masoner took the early lead with Randy Smith Jr. and Bubba Beam in pursuit. Nichols roared through the field and duked it out with Masoner before pulling away to career victory number 587 in the division. Smith challenged before settling for second with big mover Nate Barnes third.  Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods charged to the track [Read More]

Late arrival Gould hustles to Boyd All Star Shootout IMCA Modified, Stock Car wins

BOYD, Texas (May 27, 2022) – William Gould got to the track late but he got to the finish line first.  Twice.  Gould won both Friesen Performance IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car features Friday at Boyd Raceway, on night two of the All Star Shootout. “It was a good night for sure,” said Gould, who pulled into the pits just about the time the first green flag was waving after spending the day helping Gould Race Cars customers get their own cars ready for the weekend. “I only consider myself as fast as I was in my last race and tomorrow we might be terrible, but tonight we were pretty fast.”  He’d started 22nd in the Stock Car main – Gould was in a borrowed ride and was disqualified for an illegal carburetor – and needed just seven laps to race his way up to third. Gould took the lead for good one lap later and won ahead of Thursday Shootout winner Jeffrey Abbey, who’d loaned him a new carburetor, Blake Clark and 17th starting [Read More]

ARDMORE, Okla. (May 26, 2022) – A driver without a plan going into the opening night All Star Shootout feature for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds went home with $1,000 after it.  Mitchell Clement took charge following a restart at halfway, then held off a late challenge from William Gould in winning the Thursday night headliner at Southern Oklahoma Speedway. Jacob Pirkle found the fast line coming to the checkers to edge Gould for second-place pay. “I didn’t know what the track was going to do. I didn’t have a plan out there,” Clement admitted after his first feature win of 2022. “I knew the 60 car (Gould) would be coming. He likes it when it’s Baja hammer down like that.” “I was glad we could turn back under him coming out of turn four like that,” added Clement, now eligible to qualify for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Clement had passed Pirkle for the point 13 laps into the 25-lapper. Gould made his way from 10th starting and closed to a car length, throwing a slider [Read More]

Stephens enjoys racing, 100th IMCA Modified win

ARION, Iowa (May 23, 2022) – He’ll admit to not enjoy working on the car as much or as often as he used to, but Jeff Stephens says he still enjoys racing as much as he ever did.  And Friday night at Crawford County Speedway, he enjoyed it a lot.  Stephens led start to finish of the May 20 feature at Denison to earn his career 100th Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature win. He’s the 65th driver in division history to do so, and the first IMCA driver in any division to reach the triple-digit mark this season. “I just really enjoy racing,” said the Arion speedster, who’s been tossing dirt for nearly three decades and with IMCA since 1996. “There are times at the shop you don’t feel like working on the car but once I get to the track I enjoy everything about it, especially the challenge to win.”  After a broken arm suffered in a shop accident cut his rookie season short after a handful of starts, Stephens has been winning IMCA races since [Read More]

Laney, Partain, Jernagan close IMCA Clash with wins at Merced

By Ben Deatherage  MERCED, Calif. (May 7, 2022) – Cody Laney raced his way into the record book on the sixth and final night of the IMCA Central California Clash Saturday evening.  Laney won a second straight Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event at Merced Speedway, and for the record fourth time in wrapping up the series crown.  Opening salvos had Bobby Hogge go toe to toe with Troy Morris III, with Laney joining them to make it three-wide before the first circuit was scored. A pair of early cautions prevented Hogge from getting away from the rest of the pack and he’d trade a couple sliders with Laney before falling to second on lap five.  Laney had a couple cautions to deal with himself but kept an even keel on both restarts and won ahead of  Morris, Hogge, Jerry Flippo and Kyle Heckman.  It was a barnburner of an IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Bo Partain maintained a firm grip on the lead despite three early restarts before Dakota Schweitzer closed the gap during [Read More]

Laney, Foulger, Bannister collect California Clash checkers at Merced

By Ben Deatherage MERCED, Calif. (May 6, 2022) – Night five of the IMCA Central California Clash saw Cody Laney put another $1,000 in his racing account. The Torrance standout won his third Friesen Performance IMCA Modified start of the week when the Clash shifted locations to Merced Speedway Friday evening. Ryan Porter paced the competition on the initial start and held down the front position being overtaken on lap five by Laney. A series of six stoppages slowed things down, but Laney, already Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible, kept his mount ahead of all challengers, equaling Ethan Dotson’s 2021 feat for the most wins in a single season with the series. Bobby Hogge was second over Kyle Heckman, Cody Burke and Troy Foulger. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars had a thriller of a main event. Dakota Schweitzer marshaled the field on the opening start with double-duty driver Foulger in second.  Mid-race cautions kept the competitors close. Schweitzer battled Anthony Guiliani before the two briefly touched and the contact allowed Foulger to pass both [Read More]
