Sanders Scores First Modified Win in Thriller at Douglas County

By Ben Deatherage ROSEBURG, Ore. (May 8, 2026) — Matt Sanders broke through in a big way at the 2026 season opener at Douglas County Dirtrack, capturing his first career Karl Kustoms IMCA Modified feature win in just his second start in the division. The Brookings driver led late in the 20-lap main event to score a DeVilbiss Racing Chassis Western Region victory in a caution-free contest. Grey Ferrando, the 2017 Cottage Grove Speedway champion and 2024 Cocopah Speedway track titleholder, set the early pace after leading the opening lap. Sanders, the 2022 Oregon State champion in the Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMods, stayed within striking distance and began applying pressure by lap four. The battle intensified as Sanders challenged again on lap 11 and edged ahead at the line. The two frontrunners traded the lead several times over the next few circuits before Ferrando regained control on lap 14. Undeterred, Sanders remained poised and set up the decisive move in the closing laps, slipping past Ferrando on lap 18 and holding firm the rest of [Read More]

Gavin Lowe: Growing Into the Next Chapter

By Ben Deatherage VILONIA, Ark. (May 7, 2026) — In a town where there isn’t much to do and not many places to go, people tend to find something to hold onto. For Gavin Lowe, that something came early. Before he could drive. Before he could reach the pedals without help. Before most kids knew what they wanted to be. It was already there. In the shop and at the track. And in the people around him. Built Into It “I started racing at 5 when I was in kindergarten in a go-kart that my dad got me for Christmas,” Lowe said. Racing wasn’t something he discovered. It was something he grew up around. “I got into racing through family,” Cody said. “My godfather and dad did it their whole life. I helped them all the time and didn’t think I would do it myself.” That connection goes back decades. Cody and Pressley both got into racing around 1987, when Cody’s father let Pressley drive one of his older cars. It didn’t take long for it [Read More]

Debenedetti Navigates Traffic for SportMod Season-Opening Win at Southern Oregon

By Jason Allen WHITE CITY, Ore. (May 2, 2026) — Fresh off a heat race victory earlier in the night, Vinny Debenedetti led the Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMods to green in the 2026 season-opening main event at Southern Oregon Speedway. The field completed just one lap before trouble erupted on lap two. Logan McKnight and Ryder Boswell tangled on the front stretch while battling for position, collecting Cory Biggs in turn one. McKnight suffered heavy damage, and all three drivers were done for the night. On the restart, more issues followed as John Wilson spun exiting turn two, collecting Blake Peery and Connor Franklin. Peery and Wilson became locked together and had to be separated by the safety crew, ending the night for both. Another caution came on lap six when Lyle Yaeger spun. When racing resumed, Debenedetti took control and began to distance himself during a long green-flag run. Lapped traffic became a factor with 10 laps remaining as Jorddon Braaten closed in. Jenner Leads Flag-to-Flag in Modified Season Opener at Sunset Speedway Park

By Jack Mitchell BANKS, Ore. (May 2, 2026) — The Karl Kustoms IMCA Modifieds capped off opening night at Sunset Speedway Park—known as the “Banks Bullring” just outside the Portland metro area—with a 25-lap feature that kept teams busy from start to finish. Action picked up early on lap two when Lovell lost control in turn two, forcing Jake Walters up into the wall. The contact stripped away much of the bodywork on Walters’ machine and ended his race. The pace stayed demanding throughout the event, and late-race challenges continued as the field worked through traffic. On lap 19, contact between Lovell and Cassell in turn three created more damage, and one lap later Matt Jenner suffered a flat right rear tire, ending his night. Up front, Don Jenner of Vancouver, Washington stayed smooth and consistent, leading every lap to score his first win of the season in the DeVilbiss Racing Chassis Western Region. Trevor Labarge finished second, followed by Jeff Lovell, Craig Cassell, and Joey Tardio in the Greg Walters-provided No. 97 to complete the [Read More]
