Domagala stampedes to IMCA Modified checkers at 45th annual Jamestown special

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (Oct. 15) – Tracy Domagala won’t just return to Jamestown Speedway next fall to defend his Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified Stampede title. He’ll come back to buy a souvenir sweatshirt … the one with his name listed among the winners of the prestigious event. Domagala earned $2,000 along with a spot on the ballot for the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “This has to be one of the biggest events in the three-state area,” Domagala said. “The trophy and the money are great but having your name on the sweatshirt for the rest of your life is really special.” Fifty-two IMCA Modified drivers vied at the 45th annual Stampede. 17 sponsors to receive awards at IMCA national banquet

LINCOLN, Neb. – Seventeen marketing partners will be recognized with special awards during the national IMCA banquet on Saturday, Nov. 26. Both Bushore Racing Enterprises and the Deery Brothers Automotive Group receive 25-year sponsorship awards. Twenty-year sponsors are Aero Race Wheels, Brodix, Gillund Enterprises/Justice Brothers and KSE Racing Products. BMS is a 15-year award recipient while Kirkey Racing Fabrication, Mitchell Machine and Performance Distributors get 10-year awards. Chase Signs, Performance Engineering & Manufacturing, Precision Racing Products, Sybesma Graphics, TomCat Performance, Velocita and Wehrs Machine & Racing Products all will be recognized for five years as partners with IMCA. The banquet will be held at the Cornhusker Marriott in downtown Lincoln. Drivers winning championships and rookie of the year awards will also be honored and track sanction awards will be presented that evening. James is 2-for-2 at Tri-State following Spooker feature win

POCOLA, Okla. (Oct. 15) – Jeff James’ second competitive trip to Tri-State Speedway resulted in a second big payday. James, winner of the Spring Kegger special at Pocola, led all 30 laps of Saturday’s $3,000 to win Spooker main event for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. “Isn’t that crazy? I won the spring one and the fall one. That’s $5,000 in two races,” said James. “It’s a long ways (a little over 450 miles from his home in Stanton, Iowa) but it’s a nice payday.” As a bonus, the win put James on the ballot for the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Jeff Taylor, Steve Holzkamper, Todd Van Eaton and William Gould rounded out the top five. James had won his qualifying feature on Friday night and started outside pole. Green earns redemption and $2,000 at Southern Challenge

By J.M. Hallas ABILENE, Texas (Oct. 15) – A long green flag run at Abilene Speedway’s Ryan Bard Memorial Southern Challenge ended with Kevin Green in victory lane. Green caught Monte Bolton late in the 25-lap main event for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds and gained a bit of redemption along with his career-best payday in the division. “We’d been running second before hitting an infield tire at 85 Speedway’s Bryan Mize Memorial. We were fast at Ennis but ended up not finishing,” Green said, “so this was kind of redemption for me.” The $2,000 win put Green on the ballot for next year’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. He’d raced a Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMod at Abilene previously and drew the outside pole start for the weekend’s Modified main event. Bakersfield Budweiser Nationals IMCA Modified wins go to Dotson, Childress

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Oct. 7-8) – Ethan Dotson and Ricky Childress Jr. took different routes to $1,500 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified wins at Bakersfield Speedway’s Budweiser Nationals. Dotson started on the pole in Friday’s 40-lapper and led every lap, pulling away from Bobby Hogge IV and Robby Sawyer in the late going for the victory. Childress had to work his way up from 10th starting on Saturday. He was running third, just a couple car lengths off the pace when frontrunners Mike Johnson and Brad Pounds tangled late in the race. Their respective wins put both drivers on the ballot for next year’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Scott scores $5,000 IMCA Modified win at RPM Fall Nationals

By Mike Hughes HAYS, Kan. (Oct. 8) – Johnny Scott was the $5,000 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified winner at RPM Speedway’s Fall Nationals. Scott led all 40 laps of the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier at the 10th annual special. A few cautions kept the field close but Scott was able to outrun his brother Stormy to the checkers for the win. Jeff Taylor, who won the event in 2012, was third, followed by 2009 winner David Murray Jr. Cole Traugott rounded out the top five. Two hundred and sixty race teams from across the country were on hand at Hays. It was a three-way battle for all 30 laps in the $3,000 to win IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event between Jason Rogers, three-time race winner Mike Nichols and Casey Woken. Rogers took the lead at the drop of the green and led Dominic Ursetta, Woken and Nichols. Nichols squeezed by for the lead on lap 13, but Rogers regained the top spot on lap 17 and never looked back. Hogge sails to IMCA Modified sweep at Ocean’s Pat Pettit Memorial special

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (Sept. 30-Oct. 1) – Bobby Hogge IV found himself riding with an uneasy feeling of déjà vu late in the Pat Pettit Memorial main event at Ocean Speedway. But after working his way through lapped traffic, Hogge backed up his $1,003 Friday night win at Watsonville with the $3,003 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event checkers on Saturday. “Last year I had about a half a lap lead before a late restart and Alex Stanford passed me,” he said. “This year I started 11th, got to the lead and was able to get through lapped traffic. After that it was smooth sailing.” Hogge ran three-wide with front-row starters Stanford and Nick DeCarlo for the lead, catching Stanford first and then driving past DeCarlo two laps later. Stanford, DeCarlo, Cody Burke and Robby Sawyer completed the top five in the 33-lapper. IMCA announces 2016 national champions

VINTON, Iowa (Sept. 30) – Four of the 2016 national champions announced today by IMCA won’t have to google driving directions to get to the national awards banquet. They’ve been there before. Jordan Grabouski of Beatrice, Neb., won the national Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified crown for the second time while Mike Nichols of Harlan and Shannon Anderson of Des Moines both won career sixth championships in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock divisions, respectively. Nate Coopman of Mankato topped national Mach-1 Sport Compacts for the third straight year and for the fourth time in his career. First-time national champions are Andy Shouse of Mustang, Okla., in the IMCA EMI RaceSaver Sprint Car division, Tony Olson of Cedar Rapids in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Jeffrey Abbey of Comanche, Texas, in the Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods.
