Gillenwater scores first win of season

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (June 16, 2023) – Lee County Speedway took a night to highlight the career of area racer Ernie Derr on Friday as the car he drove in his final races was on display and also make some laps around the track during the evening’s activities. Jim Gillenwater led all 18 laps in scoring his first win of the season at Donnellson in the caution-free Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod main. John Oliver Jr. was runner-up and Adam Birck took third. The 25-lap Iowa Corn Growers Association IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature saw Jason Oenning work the top of the track and take the lead on lap 11, then hold off a last lap charge from Jeremy Pundt to score his second career feature win. Lemmens leaves Shawano with big money

(June 17, 2023) – Luke Lemmens ran the top side to perfection in the late going, earning the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car win and $4,000 at Shawano Speedway’s Racing For a Reason. The 12th annual special benefits the battle against childhood cancer and a season-high 130 entries, 33 of them Stock Cars, checked in at the legendary half mile. Chucky Forstner and Lemmens led the field to the green and early on it was Lemmens running the high side and Forstner down low, racing side-by-side with Tyler Wilson following closely behind. The two drivers on the move were Trent Nolan, who started seventh, and Travis VanStraten, who started 11th. By lap five, both had worked their way into the top five. Kile, Strothman headline winners’ list at CJ Speedway

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (June 16, 2023) – The weatherman provided another beautiful night Friday for racing action at the CJ Speedway, located on the Louisa County Fairgrounds in Columbus Junction. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds took the green for their 18-lap feature with Kurt Kile splitting the front row starters, the Brau brothers, Kile took the lead that he would not relinquish. Outside fourth row starter Jarrett Brown worked to the front quickly and tried to catch the quick running Kile but although he was able to close on the leader, Brown was unable to mount a serious challenge for the lead. Kile took the win ahead of Brown and visitor Zach Dockter from Norwich, N.D. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars never fail to provide great racing action and that was the case once again as the 16-lap main event saw plenty of wheel to wheel racing action. McBirnie McMasters IMCA Modifieds at MoTown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 16, 2023) – Jake McBirnie pocketed $1,000 for his Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature win on Friday, Midwest Liquid Systems Night at the Karl Auto Group Marshalltown Speedway. McBirnie started on the outside front row in the 20-lap Night after the Creek main event and leaped to the immediate lead when the race went green. He would go on to lead every lap on his way to the checkers to capture his first win at the speedway this season along with qualifying eligibility for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Joel Rust and Maguire DeJong had a good battle going on behind McBirnie, with Rust winning out for second and DeJong taking third. Fresh off a heat race win, Chris Pigeon paced the opening laps of the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature. Pigeon ran the cushion as Bartz went to work down low. Bartz made the pass for the top spot on lap four and never looked back, cruising to her first feature win of the season and a clean sweep on the night. Lucas Lamberies rallied late to place second, last week’s winner Cole Czarneski took third and Jason Ebert rounded out the top four. Ken Schrader moved up seven spots in the feature to place 12th. Trebelhorn triumphs at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 10, 2023) – The wins are what you race for and Luke Trebelhorn raced to his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car first Saturday at Arlington Raceway. The second-year Stock Car driver started third, passed Mark Zimmerman on the seventh circuit and sailed to the checkers from that point, topping the 20-lapper in front of Dave Moriarty and Matthew Looft. “This is a tough class but that’s what makes it fun,” said Trebelhorn, who had a heat win and a couple top 10 finishes as a rookie last season. BRITT, Iowa (June 12, 2023) – So much for the slow start to his season. Logan Anderson led 29 of 30 laps in repeating as winner of the Landus IMCA Northern SportMod Nationals at Hancock County Speedway, outrunning Matthew Looft and Colby Fett and earning $2,500 for his Monday night efforts. The Eddyville hot shoe is now 2-for-2 in his Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod career outings at Britt.
