Velocita awarding custom fire suits to Deery, Hawkeye Dirt Tour champions 

CLEMMONS, N.C. – Velocita adds to its IMCA awards program this season, giving custom fire suits to champions of both the Deery Brothers Summer Series for Late Models and the Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour for Modifieds. The six-year IMCA sponsor again gives custom fire suits to na­tional champions in all eight sanc­tioned divisions, and $200 product certificates to all other Modified, Stock Car and Hobby Stock regional champions. Sprint Series of Oklahoma set for Friday show at Red Dirt Raceway

By David Smith Jr. MEEKER, Okla. – The Sprint Series of Oklahoma IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car Series presented by Smiley’s Racing Products will be back in action Friday, May 5 as the tour makes the first of two ap­pearances of the season at Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker. This event will be race three on the 2017 SSO schedule with Joe Wood Jr. of Oklahoma City pick­ing up the victory this past Friday night in Wichita Falls, Texas, while Texan Chad Koch picked up the season-opening victory at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in late March. The SSO visited the quarter-mile red-clay oval in Meeker last year with Jake Martens and Andy Shouse picking up victories. Shouse’s lone SSO victory last year helped propel him to the inaugu­ral series championship, as well as the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car national crown. Sunset Speedway Park opens Saturday with Ladies’ Night 

By Ben Deatherage BANKS, Ore. – IMCA Modifieds are on the card when Sunset Speedway Park opens for the sea­son on Saturday, May 6. The first round of IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing action will be Lime-A-Rita Ladies’ Night where all ladies 18 years or older get into the races for $5. “The weather hasn’t been the kindest to us this year,” commented Nikki Gamell, Sunset manager. “We’re very excited to finally get some racing in. We also want to invite all those lovely ladies out there to come out and have some fun.” Pit gates open at 2 p.m. and the front gate opens at 4 p.m. Racing kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $13 for adults, seniors, military and juniors ages 13-17 are $10, youth ages 6-12 are $5 and children five and under are free. Fifth annual IMCA Modified Stampede is Saturday at Dodge City

While the IMCA Modifieds battle it out for a $1,200 winner’s share in their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier, championship chase action continues as well for the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Racing action goes green at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the event are $15 for adults with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult. A pair of bicycles will also be awarded to two fortunate children. Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour ups Modified winner’s shares to $2,300

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Feature winners on all six nights of the biggest series for IMCA Modifieds will get bigger checks. Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour main events will pay $2,300, a minimum of $300 to start, and are qualifying events for the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Opening night for the North Dakota-based tour is Saturday, July 8 at Jamestown Speedway. The tour travels to Nodak Speedway in Minot, on July 9, Estevan, Sask., Motor Speedway on July 10, Williston Basin Speedway on July 11, Southwest Speedway in Dickinson on July 12 and Da­cotah Speedway at Mandan on July 13. High line takes Tony Harris to Shenandoah checkers

(April 29) – Tony Harris used the high line to save his tires and become the third different winner in as many Virginia Sprint Series events this season Saturday at Shenan­doah Speedway. Bill Rice and Tony Harris paced the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car field to the feature green flag and it was on with Rice out first. Harris quickly moved to the top and by the finish of lap one he was leading. Anthony Linkenhoker and Jerald Harris quickly made it to Tony’s rear bumper and they went at it all race with Tony us­ing the high line to keep up speed. Jerald Harris made it by for second but all he could do was shadow Tony all the way to the finish. Next up for the Virginia Sprint Series is the Saturday, May 6 visit to Natural Bridge Speedway. Wood finds spark for Sprint Series of Oklahoma win at Wichita

By David Smith Jr. WICHITA FALLS, Texas (April 28) – Joe Wood Jr. held off a late race charge from Jake Martens to claim his first IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Series of Oklahoma feature of the season Friday at Wich­ita Speedway. Chris Kelly and Wood started on the front row for the 20-lap feature with Wood taking the lead as the green flag fell. The race quickly went red when Brandon Long went for an easy tip over in turns three and four yet he would be able to restart at the tail of the field.
