Marriott, Taylor beat Batesville foes for Arkansas Spring Nationals wins

BATESVILLE, Ark. (March 23-24) – A first-time visitor and a regular at Batesville Motor Speedway both raced their way to victory lane during the Arkansas Spring Nationals. Hunter Marriott topped Friday’s IMCA Modified feature while Jeff Taylor went from last on opening night to first in the Saturday show. Both features paid $1,500 to win and both Marriott and Taylor were already on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Marriott started opening night from outside the front row and led the distance, pulling away from everybody en route to his eight Fast Shafts ballot qualifying victory already this season and 11th since last August. After running in lapped traffic much of the way, Marriott won ahead of Tyler Stevens, Peyton Taylor, Jeff James and Mark Norris. “We were getting ready to race and decided on Thursday to go to Batesville,” Marriott said. “We went down there to learn and had a pretty good weekend.” Jeff Taylor, a double winner at Spring Nationals each of the last two years, started on the pole, held [Read More]

Last-lap pass nets Campbell top I-37 cash

By J.M. Hallas PLEASANTON, Texas (March 24) – To say Jamie Campbell’s road to the winner’s circle Saturday at I-37 Speedway was eventful might be an understatement. Campbell, who started eighth in the IMCA Modified feature, got clipped in a grinding lap three crash, taking some extensive body damage to the car. Then, while running third, he narrowly escaped contact with Talon Minten who spun directly in his path. That caution, the fifth of the night, saw officials call for a green, white, checkered finish on time limit. Race-long leader Dillon Tindall got a good restart, but Campbell quickly closed back in. On the white flag lap they were side by side going into turn three. Campbell used the momentum off the high line to edge out Tindall at the line by about a bumper to steal the win. “That was pretty cool,” Campbell said of his last-lap pass. “I’ve done it here before but it’s been a long time. It means a lot because I struggled so much last year with this car, especially [Read More]

It’s just common sense to go to a national sanction and not have to argue over rules.” Race dates for all IMCA divisions at Desert Thunder are April 13 and 14, April 27 and 28, May 11 and 12, and Sept. 28 and 29. “We had 21 Hobby Stocks [Read More]

Lawton Speedway adds IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars

LAWTON, Okla. – The first IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car track champion crowned in Oklahoma will earn that title at Lawton Speedway. Opening night on the 3/8-mile red clay oval is scheduled for April 7. The IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season continues on Saturday nights through Sept. 29. The growth of RaceSaver nationwide helped pique the interest of co-promoters Kyle Ezell and his mother Marcy Davis but its economical rules is what ultimately sold them on the class. “What we really like is the rules package with the sealed motor,” Ezell explained. “IMCA RaceSaver rules give everybody the same chance to win and be competitive. You can’t just outdollar somebody. The outcome of the race is determined by the driver and setup and not just how much money you spend.” As a promoter and RaceSaver driver himself, Ezell has seen the effects high costs have had on car count numbers for a non-IMCA series in the state. “It’s no fun when you know you can’t win or finish in the top five any night,” [Read More]
