FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (July 23) – With the green flag laps clicking off, the opportunity Benji LaCrosse has been waiting for finally came on the 36th time around the track Thursday at 141 Speedway.  LaCrosse caught race-long leader Nick Strobbe and then led to the finish of the $5,000 to win King of the Creek main event for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. “It was awesome. I didn’t think I’d catch the 42 car (Strobbe) for a while,” LaCrosse said following the caution-free, 50-lapper and a quick dip in the infield pond at Francis Creek. “I knew I had to get him on the top. His car was really good on the bottom.”  Strobbe, 13th in the event as a rookie last season, started from the pole and led Shawn Wagner across the stripe the first two laps.  LaCrosse made his way to the runner-up spot at that point, running the higher line and chasing the leader into traffic on lap 22.  A car length was the difference between first and second when lap 34 was scored. Chris Abelson, a three-time tour winner at BVR, started 12th and finished third. “We’ve worked pretty hard for this,” said Braaksma, who put his name on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot with his tour feature win Monday at Park Jefferson Speedway and banked $1,000 by taking the BVR checkers. “It was amazing to come out on top and know you beat the best guys in the Midwest twice.” Kyle Brown and Jesse Rogotzke, who’d started 13th, completed the top five.  Braaksma had finished [Read More]

Eckrich becomes third Drive For 5 feature winner

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (July 17) – The third installment of the Shottenkirk Parts Express Drive For 5 resulted in a third different $1,000 IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature winner Friday at Pepsi Lee County Speedway. Andy Eckrich saw his drive to the checkers slowed by just a single caution, topping the 25-lapper ahead of Denny Woodworth and Dustin Griffin. Eckrich and Woodworth drew front row starts, with Eckrich taking the early lead over Woodworth and Griffin.  The team cars of Woodworth and Griffin tried to keep pace with Eckrich over the first half of the race but the leader steadily began to pull away from both. The only thing to slow Eckrich down was the only caution of the race, on lap 15. Eckrich jumped back out front following the restart, with Woodworth and Griffin glued to his back bumper. He went on to lead the final 10 laps to score his first win of the season at Donnellson.  Second night Drive For 5 winner Nick Marolf was fourth while Mark Burgtorf, winner of the first Drive [Read More]

Port Royal checkers are PASS fourth of season for Bard

By Frank Buhrman  PORT ROYAL, Pa. (July 18) – Garrett Bard notched Pennsylvania Sprint Series win number four of the season at Port Royal Speedway Saturday, coming from seventh starting spot – the biggest advance to a win since the season opener May 30 – and holding off a determined veteran Nathan Gramley at the end.  With defending IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car national and PASS champion Ken Duke Jr. and Gramley, both former Port Royal champions, on the front row, it might have seemed that things would be settled there, but Bard and several other challengers had other ideas.  Gramley built a nice little lead in the early laps, but a caution bunched the field again, looking to improve on three straight runner-up finishes. Of the group behind the pair, it was Bard who made the move, passing both Duke and Gramley over the next five laps. The veteran Gramley kept Bard in his sights, though, and when a close brush with the outside wall caused the leader to drop to a lower line, Gramley [Read More]
