Hetrick Memorial set for Antioch Saturday night

ANTIOCH, Calif. (July 7, 2022) – After a week off to celebrate the Fourth of July, racing returns to Antioch Speedway in a big way this Saturday night, July 9. It’s the seventh annual Hetrick Memorial race and increased purses are on the line for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Thanks to sponsorship, Modifieds will be competing for $1,500 to win and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility on Saturday. It’s $750 to finish second and just taking the green flag in the main event assures the driver at least $150 at the pay window. Northern SportMods compete for $750 to win while the Stock Cars get a $600 payout for the winner. Drivers in both divisions receive $100 minimum for taking the green flag. Isaac Sanders scores second Freedom Cup Weekend win

Jacob Hoppes blazed the trail early in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod main event. Steven Sanders passed Hoppes on lap 12. Sanders, whose two brothers had visited victory lane the first two nights, had a fast hot rod but brother Isaac proved to have an even faster ride. Isaac Sanders successfully got into first place on lap 28 to win his third race of 2022 at Cottage Grove Speedway. Steven Sanders was second with Trevor Points placing third. Unfortunately, the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts could not run their Froggy 44 main event, which has been rescheduled for a later date. JEFFERSON, S.D. (July 3, 2022) – The money didn’t matter as much as winning the race did when John Cain took the checkered flag at The New Raceway Park’s Dave Riley Memorial. Wilson was able to top a field of 27 IMCA STARS Mod Lite drivers from Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana en route to his second $888 payday in the second year of the event at the proclaimed Mod Lite Capital of the World. Abbey hoists Harcrow hardware at HO’T

WACO, Texas (July 2, 2022) – What turned out to be a pretty good holiday weekend for Jeffrey Abbey started at Heart O’ Texas Speedway’s Baby Blue Harcrow Memorial. Abbey led start to finish in Saturday’s 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event and went home with a $5,000 share of the purse, plus a $2,500 share of the drivers’ auction and lap money. “I ran Heart O’ Texas pretty regularly and won a lot of races in classes I’ve raced in there over the years,” Abbey said following his eighth checkers of 2022. “I just protected the bottom and did everything I could to hold Jason (Batt) and Dustin (Mooney) off.” Abbey had won both his heat races and the qualifying feature on Friday night, then lined up outside Mooney on the front row in Saturday’s big show. Funeral services are Thursday for Casey Arneson

FARGO, N.D. (July 5, 2022) – Funeral services will be held July 7 for Casey Arneson. Arneson, 27, died as a result of a UTV accident late Friday, July 1. The driver of the number 2 Modified and nicknamed The Flying Deuce, he’d begun racing with IMCA in 2018 and was the Jamestown Speedway track champion the following season. Friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday with racing casual attire requested and services are at 11 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church (South Campus). The service will be live streamed on the Boulger Funeral Home website for those unable to attend. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Sanders, Drake win on night two of Freedom Cup

Sanders took care of business in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods, parking his mount in victory lane for the second time at Cottage Grove. Kevin Williamson beat Matt Sanders for second. Drake tamed the field in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts. The Salem racer won her first race of the year at CGS this season.
