COOS BAY, Ore. (June 17, 2026) — Grey Ferrando used lapped traffic to his advantage late in the Karl Kustoms IMCA Modified feature to score his third Wild West Speedweek victory of the week during the fifth round of the 2026 IMCA Wild West Speedweek and the first of two nights at Coos Bay Speedway.

Two-time defending Wild West Speedweek champion Bricen James paced the opening laps aboard the Schram Motorsports No. 13 before Matt Sanders, winner of the previous two IMCA Northern SportMod Speedweek championships, worked his way into contention.

Sanders executed a move to the inside of turn four on lap four to take command and appeared poised to drive away. Cautions on laps seven and 11 kept the field tightly grouped, however, allowing James and Ferrando to remain within striking distance.

While Sanders maintained the lead through the middle stages of the race, James and Ferrando engaged in a spirited battle for second. The trio remained closely packed as lapped traffic entered the equation on lap 24.

Attempting to navigate around a slower car on the outside groove, Sanders drifted high, opening the door for both challengers. Ferrando emerged with the lead in a frantic three-car scramble and won the race back to the stripe.

The Scio driver pulled away as Sanders and James continued battling for second. Ferrando encountered heavy traffic during the final laps but successfully worked through it to secure his third victory of the week at three different facilities, fifth career Wild West Speedweek triumph, and third career Speedweek win at Coos Bay Speedway, tying the all-time track record. The victory was also his eighth DeVilbiss Racing Chassis Western Region score of the season at seven different racetracks.

The feature served as a Fast Shafts All-Star Modified Invitational qualifier. Ferrando was already on the eligibility list for the event at the Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s.

Sanders finished second, while 2019 DeVilbiss Racing Chassis Western Region champion James completed the podium in third. Southern Californian Steve McCollough advanced from ninth to fourth, while British Columbia’s Lawrence O’Connor rounded out the top five.

Wild Continues Stock Car Domination

B.J. Wild continued his remarkable Wild West Speedweek run by collecting another Sunoco IMCA Stock Car victory.

Local favorite Toby McIntyre led the opening lap before Wild, aboard the Dwayne Klein-owned No. 22K, began applying pressure around lap six. The defending series champion completed the winning pass on lap seven and quickly established himself as the driver to beat.

Wild, who entered the night with three victories in the first four Speedweek races, encountered lapped traffic on lap 15 before a caution came out. Once green-flag conditions resumed, Tyler Pagel and three-time series champion Chase Berkeley engaged in a prolonged battle for second while Wild steadily pulled away.

The Colville, Washington, driver, originally from Redmond, cruised to his fourth victory of the week, seventh career Wild West Speedweek triumph, and third consecutive Speedweek win at Coos Bay Speedway. The victory was also his fourth EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region score of the season.

Pagel finished second at the line, while Berkeley crossed the line third. Peyton Reigard placed fourth and McIntyre completed the top five.

Points Rallies for Third Win of the Week

Trevor Points added another chapter to his impressive Speedweek campaign by capturing the Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMod feature.

The two-time defending Oregon State champion jumped to the lead at the start and quickly established himself as the driver to beat. Following a series of early cautions, the race settled into a lengthy green-flag run.

Tyler Johnson, the 2024 National Rookie of the Year and Arizona State champion, recovered from an early spin and charged into second by lap seven. Johnson began challenging Points for the lead on lap 12 before contact between the two brought out a caution one lap later.

The incident handed the lead to 16-year-old Talon Mulvey of Southern California. Kody Greer mounted a challenge on the final restart, but Mulvey broke away and appeared headed for his first Speedweek victory.

As the laps wound down, however, Points mounted a charge. Mulvey got out of shape exiting the final set of corners on the last lap, allowing the Salem driver to slip past and steal the win.

The victory was Points’ third of the week, fourth career Wild West Speedweek triumph, and first career series win at Coos Bay Speedway.

Greer finished second after starting seventh, while hometown racer Jordan Stevens completed the podium in third. Lyle Yeager crossed the line fourth, and Mulvey was credited with fifth.
