COLBY, Kan. (July 25, 2025) — The “Class Too Tough To Tame” ended the evening at Thomas County Speedway, as the Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars brought twenty-three of the top Midwest drivers to Colby. The twenty-lap main event featured a front row of Wheat Lippelman and Troy Burkhart, as Troy fired off with the early race lead, but quickly Kyle Pfeifer and Angel Munoz stormed the castle.
Troy led until lap five where a caution saved him as Angel Munoz had made a bid for the lead. Troy restarted the field after Tyler Tipton brought out the caution and continued to lead until lap twelve when Angel Munoz got by to take his first official lead of the race.
Wheat Lippelman went for a spin down the frontstretch with two laps to go. Angel Munoz restarted well, while a three-wide battle broke out for second place, until Johnny Yutterman sailed it off the top of turns one and two. Angel Munoz won as the back half of the field wrecked coming to the checkers.
Munoz picked up his third win of the season in the EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region, the other two coming in thrilling Dakota Mod Tour action. Second was Tathan Burkhart who had a strong second half of the race, third went to Troy Burkhart.
Ursetta Dominant in Modified Action
The Friesen Peformance IMCA Modifieds had their twenty-lap main event start with a front row of Dominic Ursetta and John Burrow. Ursetta fired off well and appeared to have the strongest car all night long.
Eddie Belec and Dylan Sherfick seemed to have magnets on their cars as the duo stayed glued together in a fierce and respectful battle for second. Lapped traffic didn’t slow down Ursetta one bit. Dakota Sproul sliced through the traffic late in the going to snatch second and appeared to have a car capable of reeling in the leader, but ultimately ran out of laps.
Dominic Ursetta picked up his first win of 2025 in the Jet Racing Central Region, a season in which he’s only made three starts. Second was Sproul with Belec completing the podium in third.
Smooth Sailing for Zach Olmstead in the Hobby Stocks
The Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stock 20-lap main event began with Justin Yutterman and Carson Hageman on the front row. The field wasted no time going three-wide as Dylan Bell immediately entered the mix.
Yutterman led lap one, but was swallowed up in a lap two three-wide battle with Zach Olmstead and Bell. On lap three, Olmstead surged to the lead down the backstretch. Just one lap later, Jake Eicher hit the backstretch wall and collected Levi Jones and Alicia Hilzer in the aftermath.
Olmstead led the restart with sixteen laps remaining and quickly checked out. His brother Morgan Olmstead made a strong late charge but couldn’t reel in either Zach or Bell. Zach Olmstead rolled to his nineteenth win of the season in the B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region. Second was Bell and third Morgan Olmstead.
Barnhart Adds to Colby SportMod Win Total
The Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMods opened the evening. The twenty-lap main event started with Josh Barnhart and Nicholas Hankins leading the way.
Barnhart fired off strong while Hankins took to the top shelf. Walt quickly moved into third and began chasing the leaders. By lap two, Blaine Walt and Hankins were side-by-side in a battle that Walt would win.
A couple cautions slowed the pace, but Barnhart nailed every restart. Gruber came on strong late and climbed to third, giving Walt a run in second, but ran out of time. Barnhart earned yet another Colby win — continuing a stretch where only Adam Weber has interrupted his run. Walt finished second and Gruber third.
