ALGONA, Iowa (July 17, 2025) – Brandon Nielsen parked it in victory lane during the Jess Weishaar Memorial Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stock feature at Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday night, collecting a cool $1,000 for his efforts in the 25-lap main event.

Grant Haugland and Jay Sidles led the 17-car field to green, but it was Sidles who held the point after the first lap. Just two laps later, Jade Lange took over the top spot before a yellow flag flew on lap five. A restart followed, and that’s when Nielsen made his move.

Nielsen powered into the lead on lap eight and never looked back, only slowed by a caution on lap 13. Driving a car still wrapped in last year’s Salute To Veterans Blue Angel tribute theme, the Spencer veteran scored his third win of the season at Algona and fifth overall in the 2025 B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region.

Season point leader Josh Sidles settled for second, while a hard-charging Mike Smith completed the podium.

Shryock Outduels Jennings in Stock Car Thriller

The Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars saw McCain Jennings grab the early lead from the pole and survive three caution flags in the first 10 laps. Behind him, a fierce battle broke out featuring David Smith, Troy Swearingen, Chad Palmer, and Kelly Shryock.

Another yellow on lap 14 set up a showdown as Shryock turned up the pressure on Jennings. The two went door-to-door for a pair of laps before Shryock edged ahead with three circuits remaining to earn his fifth Stock Car win of the season at Kossuth County and 11th in the EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region.

Jennings held on for second, while Smith – still sitting on 199 career feature wins – finished third.

Fett Doubles Down in SportMod Victory

A false start forced a complete restart in the Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMod feature, but when things finally settled, Jacob Tacheny grabbed the early lead. He paced the first half of the race until Alec Fett took control at the midway point.

The yellow came out with two laps to go and flew three straight times, but Fett stayed composed through each restart to claim his second consecutive win at Algona. It marked his fourth win of the 2025 campaign.

Mike Smith gave chase but settled for second with Charlie Stevens third as both drivers kept the pressure on Fett in the closing circuits.

Knecht Scores First Modified Win of Season

The Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds were well-behaved in their 15-lap feature, running green to checkers without incident. Cody Knecht, starting from the outside front row, took the lead on the opening lap and never gave it up.

A four-car duel unfolded behind him with Jason Bass, Jeremy Mills, Nick Meyer, and Shryock battling it out for second. Meyer eventually claimed runner-up honors while Shryock took third and Mills crossed fourth.

Knecht’s win was his first of the season in the Razor Chassis North Central Region.

Osler Soars to Sport Compact Victory

Mike Albert led the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact field to green and paced the early going until a caution on lap five reset the race. On the restart, 17-year-old Lady Eagle racer Brooke Osler made her move and took command.

A final yellow on lap six was the only obstacle in her path as Osler picked up her third win of the season at Algona and fifth overall in 2025.

A fast-closing Tyler Fiebelkorn came home second while Charles Prime completed the top three.
