FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (July 17, 2025) –– Mike Mullen earned his third career Appleton Camping Center King of the Creek crown with the Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars at 141 Speedway on Thursday night. The victory was worth a cool $10,000 payday and marked his eighth EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region win of the season, three of which have come at 141.
Mullen earned the pole for the feature by virtue of his preliminary win two nights prior, where he charged from 10th to first. He capitalized on strong starts throughout the main event to build an early advantage over Benji LaCrosse and company.
LaCrosse gradually chipped away at that lead over the course of the first 30 laps. Mullen was dominant even as he encountered lapped traffic, but an incident with Marcus Yarie—who spun after contact with the leader—brought out a caution.
On the restart, Mullen once again proved his prowess, executing restarts with the same precision his father, Brian Mullen, once taught him. LaCrosse tried a variety of lines but could never find the traction needed to mount a serious challenge.
Mullen sealed the deal after one final restart with four laps remaining. He now joins LaCrosse as the only three-time King of the Creek winners. Trent Nolan rounded out the podium after battling mid-race with veteran Rod Snellenberger.
Jerry Wilinski pocketed a $1,000 paycheck with a dominating drive in the non-qualifier feature.
Vlies Sends a Message in SportMods
Coy Vlies put everyone on alert Thursday night, signaling he’s still a top contender for next month’s Captain of the Creek crown in the Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMods.
Vlies put on a clinic, showing the fastest way around the 1/3-mile clay oval. Vlies moved to the front from the third starting spot, overtaking early leader Tim Warner with a decisive move.
Last year’s Captain of the Creek, Matt Avila, eventually made his way to second, but Vlies had already checked out like he was finishing a grocery run. Avila began to reel him in as he figured out the changing track conditions, but Vlies skillfully worked through traffic and maintained a comfortable gap.
Vlies cruised to the win ahead of Avila, marking his fourth victory at 141 Speedway in 2025 and seventh overall this season. Brady Harshberger won a race-long battle with Cole Thomas for third.
