COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 16, 2025) –– Brett Muth thrilled his hometown fans with a determined 25-lap victory in Wednesday’s Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature at Cottage Grove Speedway, the second race of the 2025 Midweek Mayhem Series. The triumph marked his second win of the season in the Shaw Race Cars Western Region.
Muth grabbed the lead on the opening lap and looked strong early before the caution waved on lap two. When racing resumed, Kevin Williamson—the wheelman of the Superior Fuel Cells no. 42 machine—began chipping away at Muth’s advantage and caught him by lap 12. What followed was a dramatic side-by-side battle between the pair for several circuits, with Williamson momentarily getting the better of it—only to be forced to relinquish the lead due to a yellow on lap 15.
That opened the door for five-time and reigning Cottage Grove Speedway track champion Jake Mayden, who methodically worked the high side aboard the Dustin Brooks-owned no. 5M and surged into the lead on lap 17. But Muth wasn’t done yet—he got his elbows up and roared back to the front on lap 18.
From there, Muth separated from the pack as a war for second broke out behind him. Williamson regrouped to take second, while Mayden crossed the line third.
Ashley Shines in SportMods
The 25-lap Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMod feature turned into a battle between teammates as Ricky Ashley powered to his second win of the 2025 campaign—both at Cottage Grove Speedway.
Trevor Points, the 2023 Oregon State champion, took control early, leading the opening laps before a lap two caution, the race’s only stoppage. On the restart, Ashley—wheeling the T.R. Points Trucking-owned no. 1185—mounted a charge, running down his teammate using the low groove.
Ashley made the decisive pass on lap 12 and never looked back, building a healthy lead and cruising to the checkered flag. Points held on for second while Matt Brown completed the podium.
Bryant Hustles to Fourth Win in Sport Compacts
The Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact 20-lapper was another showcase for Burnie Bryant, who delivered a dominant performance to pick up his fourth win of 2025, and second at Cottage Grove Speedway this season.
Tiffany Towns jumped out to the early lead and paced the field through the first five circuits, holding off initial pressure from Charles Trissell. But Bryant, the reigning Oregon State and Douglas County Dirtrack champion, had the high side working and charged into the top spot on lap eight.
A caution followed shortly after, the lone yellow of the race. On the restart, Bryant proved untouchable and checked out from the field to seal the deal. Towns finished second with Randy Kuhl securing third.
