VINTON, Iowa (Aug. 13, 2026) — RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car racing continues to gain momentum in the West, and that growth will accelerate in 2027 with the formation of the new Southwestern RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car Series.
The new series will feature a 15-race schedule from March through November at three tracks: Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, Calif., Barona Speedway in Lakeside, Calif., and Mohave Valley Raceway in Mohave Valley, Ariz.
The Southwestern series adds another exciting chapter to the continued expansion of RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car racing in the region. It follows the announcement of the California RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car Series, which will compete at Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway, Kings Speedway in Hanford, Merced Speedway, Santa Maria Speedway, Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare and Watsonville Speedway.
Together, the two series will bring RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car competition to nine tracks, creating additional opportunities for drivers and strengthening the future of affordable Sprint Car racing throughout California and the Southwest.
The idea for the Southwestern series developed following the enthusiastic response to the Aug. 13 announcement of the California series. Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian reached out to Todd and Trishia Salazar of Barona Speedway and Ron Meyer of Mohave Valley Raceway to gauge their interest in working together to establish another RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car series.
The response was an overwhelming yes.
“Now we have nine tracks in a region to come together and work with each other,” Kazarian said. “Even though these will be two separate divisions of RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Cars, we will work together as both these series grow to someday host some major regional and national events.”
For more than three decades, the RaceSaver Sprint Car program has been built around a simple philosophy: keeping Sprint Car racing affordable while maintaining exciting, competitive racing.
Founded in 1996 by French Grimes, RaceSaver introduced a cost-conscious approach to Sprint Car racing through its sealed 305 cubic-inch engine program and rules designed to control expenses. The program eventually became part of IMCA’s national racing structure, providing competitors with consistent rules, national points opportunities and the ability to compete at sanctioned events across the country.
Today, RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Cars have become an established part of the national Sprint Car landscape, offering racers an affordable alternative while delivering the speed, excitement and close competition that Sprint Car fans have come to expect.
That same philosophy is driving the expansion into the Southwest.
“We’re really excited to bring RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Cars to Mohave Valley Raceway for the 2027 racing season,” said Meyer. “Sprint Car racing has always been a favorite with our fans, and we believe the RaceSaver program will be a great addition to our schedule. Working together with Perris Auto Speedway and Barona Speedway gives us a great opportunity to grow Sprint Car racing in the Southwest while giving drivers an affordable and competitive series to race in. We’re looking forward to being part of it.”
Barona Speedway promoter Todd Salazar shares that enthusiasm and sees the new series as an opportunity to introduce even more racers and fans to the RaceSaver program.
“Trishia and all of us at Barona Speedway are pleased to present this new and attractive Sprint Car division in 2027,” Salazar said. “By hosting this series at these centralized race tracks, it opens the market to racers and race fans in Southern California, Arizona and Nevada to this growing form of Sprint Car racing.”
“Big Wings and Big Excitement” will be coming to all three tracks in 2027.
IMCA Vice President Jim Stannard believes the cooperation between the nine facilities represents a significant step forward for Sprint Car racing in the region.
“Now with nine tracks in this region working together, it’s going to be an even bigger success,” Stannard said. “We haven’t had this many race tracks working together in California for a long time.”
The cooperative effort will provide competitors with a coordinated touring schedule while giving each participating facility the opportunity to showcase RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car racing to its fans.
Drivers will also have opportunities to compete for Speedway Motors IMCA Weekly Racing national and applicable state championships throughout the season.
With nine tracks, two series and a growing commitment from promoters throughout the region, the foundation is being established for continued growth and the potential for larger regional and national events in the years ahead.
