ELMA, Wash. (May 23, 2026) — The opening night of the 2026 West Coast Modified Clash at Grays Harbor Raceway brought 33 Karl Kustoms IMCA Modifieds to battle at the fast 3/8-mile clay oval.

Scio, Oregon’s Grey Ferrando jumped to the early lead and set a torrid pace out front in the 30-lap feature. Behind him, Matt Sanders charged through the field from his 12th starting position in his Grays Harbor Raceway debut, climbing to second by lap seven while navigating heavy traffic.

Sanders began reeling in Ferrando in lapped traffic and cut the lead down to 1.7 seconds before a caution slowed the field. Another quick yellow for Jesse Williamson tightened things up again, allowing Collen Winebarger, a late entry during the wheel of the Swan Island Sheet Metal-owned No. 99S, to work into third.

Winebarger eventually tracked down Sanders and made the pass with 11 laps remaining, but Ferrando remained untouchable out front. He led all 30 circuits to score the $2,000 victory and his fourth DeVilbiss Racing Chassis Western Region win of the 2026 season at three different tracks across two states, and his first at Grays Harbor Raceway this year.

Winebarger advanced from eighth to finish second, while Sanders completed an impressive run from 12th to third. Ryan Peery secured the final redraw lock-in spot for Sunday’s finale after slipping past Tyson Blood late in the race to finish fourth. Blood rounded out the top five.

The event also served as a Fast Shafts All-Star Modified Invitational qualifier. Ferrando had already secured eligibility earlier this month with qualifier victories at Southern Oregon Speedway.

Heat race wins went to Austin Rognlin, Williamson, John Gaynor, Ferrando, Devon Reed, Winebarger, and Ferrando again to complete a sweep of his heat race group. B Main victories belonged to Zane Miner and Jason Tole.

The event was broadcast live on IMCA TV affiliate Grays Harbor Raceway TV. Catch every lap again with the IMCA TV Replay Subscription, available for just $25.99/month. And don’t miss Season 2 of the Boone Docuseries, now streaming exclusively on IMCA TV.
