Rookie Johnson Breaks Through for First SportMod Win at Antioch

ANTIOCH, Calif. (Aug. 16, 2025) — Alfred Johnson of Antioch captured the Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMod feature at Antioch Speedway for his first career victory. The rookie driver led from start to finish in a memorable performance.

Johnson jumped into the lead at the drop of the green ahead of Joseph Pato. Both drivers were chasing their first win and quickly built a big advantage over the rest of the field. Mark Garner ran third in the early stages while Trevor Clymens settled into fourth on lap 14. Johnson began to pull away from Pato, and Clymens used a low pass in turn four on lap 16 to take third from Garner. Johnson kept his composure in the closing laps to seal the breakthrough win, with Pato second and Clymens third.

Ryland Races to Fourth Stock Car Victory of Season

Fred Ryland of Brentwood scored his fourth Sunoco IMCA Stock Car win of the season at Antioch Speedway, his fourth also in the EQ Cylinder Heads Southern Region. The victory was also the 81st of his career at Antioch, further solidifying his place as the current point leader.

The 20-lap feature went caution-free. Jared Baugh led the opening circuit with Les Friend of Galt close behind. Ryland slipped past Friend in turn four on lap two to grab second, then powered low in turn two a lap later to take the lead from Baugh. As Ryland pulled away, Mitch Enos advanced into contention, overtaking Friend on lap eight and then Baugh for second on lap 17. Enos ran out of time to catch Ryland, who cruised to the checkered flag ahead of Enos and Baugh.

Ryland outruns Northern SportMod foes at Antioch

(June 22, 2024) – Fred Ryland was back in victory lane Saturday night, following his second Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature win of 2024 at Antioch Speedway. Dylan Connelly jumped into the early lead ahead of Haley Gomez and Ryland. They ran that way until Gomez pushed too high in turn two of the fifth lap, allowing Ryland to race by for second. Connelly had a huge lead, but it whittled away to nothing when they come upon lapped traffic on the ninth circuit. A low move in turn two of the 10th lap temporarily gained Ryland the lead, but Connelly came back strong to pace the lap. Ryland again raced around Connelly on the 11th lap to take the lead. Following a yellow flag for a three-car tangle, Ryland led reigning champion Kenny Shrader and Jason Ryan Jr on the restart. Ryland set a good pace the rest of the way to collect the win, followed by Shrader, Ryan, Trevor Clymens and Chuck Golden.

Antioch checkers fly for Crowell, Ryland

By Don Martin II ANTIOCH, Calif. (May 28, 2022) – Aaron Crowell won the 20-lap Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event at Antioch Speedway. This was the first win of the season for the 2004 track champion. Crowell jumped into the early lead after the race had been restarted. Trevor Clymens was a close second before surrendering the spot  second to Kellen Chadwick in traffic on lap 10 with Troy Foulger following closely into third.  A blanket three-car battle developed for the lead with Crowell leading Chadwick and Foulger. As Foulger fell back a little bit, in the waning laps, Chadwick took one more shot at Crowell, but Crowell prevailed at the checkered flag. Foulger settled for third, followed by Anthony Slaney and Clymens. Fred Ryland won his third 20-lap Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod main. Pettit aces IMCA Modified feature in Antioch opener

ANTIOCH, Calif. (Jan. 2) – Jim Pettit II came up big in the first IMCA Modified feature of the season Saturday at Antioch Speedway. Pettit started on the pole and led all 30 laps for the win, holding off a series of challengers for the $1,000, Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying victory on a perfectly prepared fast, multi-groove oval.  Up to the task following each of three restarts, Pettit led the 17th starting Nick DeCarlo, Troy Foulger, Kellen Chadwick and Bobby Hogge IV to the checkers.  Todd Gomez and Cody Johnson also raced their way to Antioch’s victory lane on Saturday, in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main events, respectively. Trevor Clymens paced the first 14 laps of the 25-lap Northern SportMod feature before Gomez, another local, grabbed the top spot from ninth starting.
