DAVENPORT, Iowa (Jun. 6, 2025) — Jake Morris captured an impressive and emotional first-ever victory in the Sunoco IMCA Late Model division Friday night at Davenport Speedway.
The rookie started fourth and ran among the leaders for the first half of the 25-lap main event. A lap 16 caution for a three-car pile-up on the front stretch reset the field and opened the door for Morris.
On the restart, Morris powered around early leader Chris Lawrence to take command. From there, he held off a hard-charging Matt Ryan over the final 10 laps. Ryan had started 10th and closed quickly but had to settle for second. Logan Veloz advanced from 13th to round out the podium in third.
Diercks Continues Modified Domination
Spencer Diercks claimed his fourth Friesen Performance IMCA Modified win of the year at Davenport, and seventh overall in the Razor Chassis North Central Region.
Diercks was engaged in a fierce battle for the lead with Brad Dierks before making his move on lap 18. As Spencer dove low, Brad slipped over the edge of the track, losing momentum and falling back several spots. The race stayed green, and Diercks stayed smooth up front to take the checkers.
Charlie Mohr finished third. Mitch Way, who started on the pole and led early, slipped back mid-race but rallied for second.
Mullen Nips Field in SportMod Thriller
Rayce Mullen picked the right time to shine, scoring his second win of the season—and his first at Davenport—in a dramatic Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMod feature that saw four different leaders.
Finn Oppenheimer led the opening three circuits before Trey Jacobs took over through lap 10. A restart on lap 11 put Levi Heath in front, but Mullen made his move one lap later.
In the closing laps, Mullen had to withstand relentless pressure from both Heath and a late-surging Scott Walker. At the finish, it was Mullen—of Pearl City, Illinois—by just 0.033 seconds over Walker. Heath held on for third.
La Mar Goes Flag to Flag in Hobby Stocks
Buffalo’s Randy La Mar was untouchable in the Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stock feature, leading all the way to claim his third Davenport win of 2025 and sixth overall in the B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region.
La Mar jumped to the early lead from the drop of the green and never looked back. Wisconsin’s Scott Wetter finished second, with Sheldon Hunter in third.
