BOONE, Iowa (May 10, 2025) — The Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks were the final race of the night at Boone Speedway, and it would be a wild one at “Iowa’s Action Track.” From early on, it appeared that John Watson and Joe Doran had the fastest cars on the track. However, as the race was sorted out, they both could see the leaders out front, but several caution flags continued to reset their momentum. Watson, who started 12th, and Doran, who started 18th, failed to get to the lead before the race’s end.
Meanwhile, Kolby Sabin and Cory VanderWilt worked up from their fourth row starting positions to the front. When the checkers flew, it was Sabin earning his first B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region win of the season, followed by VanderWilt and Justin Frederick.
Smith Charges to Stock Car Victory
Alan Van Gorp and Robert Stofer led the field early in the Sunoco IMCA Stock Car finale, with the pack racing three and four wide behind them. Kevin Opheim remained in the top four for much of the race until a miscue saw him slip back to seventh by the finish.
Former Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s winner Devin Smith found his preferred line around the top of the track, working his way from the sixth row to the front. Smith powered to his first EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region win of the year, holding off Josh Daniels and Austin Bouzek at the line.

Nagle Scores First Modified Win of the Season
Early in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main, cars raced side by side and three wide throughout the field. After several laps, the track began to sort out around the top, with Paul Nagle emerging as the leader. Nagle faced challenges from Zane DeVilbiss, who started 10th, and Cory Sauerman, but he held on out front.
Nagle picked up his first win of the 2025 season in the Razor Chassis North Central Region, with DeVilbiss and Sauerman rounding out the podium after a competitive 20-lap contest.

Mallicoat Snags $1,000 King of the Hill Crown
The IMCA Modifieds battled for a $1,000 prize in the King of the Hill event, which featured a unique bracket-style format. Six of the top eight racers based on track points were locked in, while 10 more wheelmen advanced through heat race finishes. The lineup was then broken down into four-car shootouts, each lasting three laps, with the top two advancing through the rounds.
Semi-final action saw eight cars vying for the final four spots. Izac Mallicoat and Jake McBirnie, both from Boone, tangled in one of the semis, with both drivers spinning while fighting for position. Mallicoat recovered to make the final, where he joined Todd Shute, Zane DeVilbiss, and Matt Meinecke. Shute led the first two laps of the shootout before Mallicoat made a thrilling last-lap pass at the line to claim the $1,000 prize and the King of the Hill crown.
Reimers Rockets to SportMod Victory
The Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMods main event started with several cautions and a complete restart, but Ryan King held steady out front through the early chaos. As the race wore on, the track began to widen out to the favor of Kelley’s Cam Reimers.
Reimers, who started in the sixth row, weaved his way through the field and built a nearly five-second lead before another caution bunched the field up. On the restart, Reimers pulled away again, taking the checkers ahead of Camdan Vincent, who advanced 15 spots to finish second, and Dusty Masolini, who gained 11 positions to finish third.

Gray Grabs Mod Lite Checkers at Boone
The Carquest Truck and Auto IMCA Mod Lite feature saw Josh May of Desoto, IA, leading the majority of the race with Austin Gray nipping at his heels. Terry Brown took a tumble in turn two late in the race, bringing out the red flag and resetting the field.
Gray made his move with two laps remaining, motoring past May to take the Moffitt Ford checkers. Cory Sonner, Tanner Gannon, and Bryan Zehm rounded out the top five.
