Davenport Speedway Fills Need For Speed in The Month of May

DAVENPORT, Iowa (Apr. 30, 2025) – From the Kentucky Derby to the Indianapolis 500, the month of May has been associated with racing and speed for more than one hundred years.

The Davenport Speedway, under the direction of SR Promotions, continues this great tradition. Five events are planned for the racetrack at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in the month of May.

Weekly racing action tops the agenda on Friday, May 2^nd. In addition to the five every week classes, the Stealth Racing IMCA STARS Mod Lites will make their second appearance of the season.

The chase for the 2025 track championships continues on Friday, May 16^th, as we reach the one-third mark of the season. All weekly classes will be in action, as will the IMCA Mod Lites.

We close out the month on Friday, May 30^th with more weekly points action. All weekly classes will be racing: Sunoco IMCA Late Models, Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet IMCA SportMods, and Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks. Also racing will be the IMCA Mod Lites.

The first May race at the fairgrounds was held May 31, 1926. Walter Snider of Davenport, won the seven-mile automobile race. Maynard Clark of Milan won the five-mile motorcycle event.

IMCA Modifieds, Northern SportMods Brawl this weekend at Davenport

DAVENPORT, Iowa (March 22, 2022) – IMCA Modifieds race for a cool $1,000 to win on night two of Davenport Speedway’s March 25 and 26 Thaw Brawl. Modifieds and IMCA Northern SportMods are on both cards, with Friday and Saturday SportMod features paying $500 to win. The Saturday Modified winner also becomes Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Razor Chassis North Central Region and KMJ Performance State points will be awarded each night. There is no entry fee and pit passes are $40. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps start at approximately 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow. Spectator admission is $30 on Friday and $35 on Saturday. Opening night for Deery Series moves to Saturday at Maquoketa

DAVENPORT, Iowa (April 12) – Persistent cold and wet weather conditions have resulted in cancellation of tonight’s Rebel 5K Deery Brothers Summer Series event at Davenport Speedway. Opening night for the 33rd annual IMCA Late Model tour moves to Saturday, April 13 at Maquoketa Speedway, with night two of what is now a weekend doubleheader on Sunday, April 14 at Dubuque Speedway. Both main events pay $2,500 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. Maquoketa hosts the inaugural Hershel Roberts/Ray Guss Sr. Memorial on Saturday. Pit gates open and Late Model pre-tech starts at 2 p.m. Saturday. The drivers’ meeting is at 4:10 p.m. and hot laps are at 4:30 p.m., with racing to follow. Spectator admission is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and students and free for ages 12 and under. Pit passes will be $30. Other sanctioned divisions running both nights are the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods.

Nezworski returns to Davenport victory lane

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (April 27) – Andy Nezworski collected a much anticipated victory in Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model action on opening night Friday at Davenport Speedway. Nezworski led all 25 laps of the race, despite pressure from Nick Marolf early and Chad Holladay in the final laps. Nezworski’s last win at Davenport came May 30, 2014. Holladay took second, ahead of Rob Toland, Matt Ryan and Chuck Hanna. Rob Toland led the Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified feature for all of 50 yards, the last 50. Toland drove under race leader Eric Barnes in the final corner of the race and sprinted to the checkered flag. Toland had started eighth and slowly worked his way to the front. Barnes had grabbed the lead from the outside pole and led the first laps of a race that went green, white, checkered. Another week, another win for Tony Olson in the Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod main. Martini Charges to SportMod Victory in North Central Speedway Season Opener

(Apr. 26, 2025) — North Central Speedway launched its 2025 season with a thrilling night of Speedway Motors IMCA Weekly racing, headlined by Bud Martini’s remarkable comeback in the Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMods feature. Starting from the 10th position, Martini swiftly moved into the top three by lap four. However, contact with second-place T.J. Wyman in turn one brought out a caution and sent Martini to the rear of the field. Undeterred, he methodically worked his way back through the pack. A pivotal moment occurred with six laps remaining when leader Tim Bergerson spun, collecting Wyman and Jake Kierstad. This incident allowed Martini to re-enter the top five. On the ensuing restart, the Avon veteran surged past the front runners, seizing the lead with four laps to go and holding off a hard-charging Wyman to secure his first North Central Speedway win of the season and third overall in 2025. Westergard Prevails Late in Skagit Season Opener

(Apr. 26, 2025) — Jeff Westergard kicked off the 2025 Friesen Performance IMCA Modified campaign at Skagit Speedway in style, overcoming early traffic and late-race pressure to earn his first Shaw Race Cars Western Region victory of the season. Adam Holtrop jumped to the early lead in the 25-lap main event before a flurry of mid-pack battles began to unfold. On a restart, Vancouver Island’s Geoff Morris, the 2023 Skagit Speedway track champion, powered into second before being shuffled back by James Bundy and Westergard. Bundy closed on Holtrop before a lap eight caution slowed the field. On the ensuing restart, Morris flipped in a multi-car tangle in turn four, bringing out the red flag. Westergard capitalized on the next restart, moving into second and then methodically pressuring Holtrop over several laps.
