BOONE, Iowa (June 25, 2022) – He’s been an IMCA Junior National Champion and an IMCA national champion.
And next year, Kaden Reynolds will get his name on the souvenir T-shirt as winner of the Saturday night King of the Katwalks main event at Boone Speedway.
The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car rookie checked out in winning the inaugural Fox Welding/Vermeer special presented by VanEaton Pork, earning $2,500 and becoming eligible to qualify for the B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational when he returns to Iowa’s Action Track for the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s in September.
“This is my biggest win by far,” said Reynolds, tasked with loading up the one-of-a-kind 70-pound trophy that accompanied the victory. “I figured I’d have a pretty good race with Jake (McBirnie) after the first few laps but I definitely didn’t come in here thinking I’d win this thing. There were so many good drivers here tonight.”
Fifty-seven drivers from across the Midwest and from as far away as Colorado and Oregon vied for the King of the Katwalks crown. Drivers with a combined nine IMCA national championships and 12 Super Nationals titles to their credit were in the grid for the star-filled main event.
Reynolds started outside McBirnie on the front row. They were side-by-side at the end of the first circuit before Reynolds began pulling away from the pack.
The 31-lapper ran caution free as Reynolds added to his advantage up front. The second-running McBirnie pulled into the infield at midway; Jeff Mueller, Damon Murty and Devin Smith made their way into the top four before Reynolds got into lapped traffic but the race stayed green and none would get the restart opportunity they needed to reel in the leader.
Travis Barker completed the top five.
“Finally, a win at Boone,” said Reynolds, already a five-time winner at three other venues this season. “I was going to hang back a bit at the start but the car just felt so good on lap one I just went for it. So much of the race felt like we were in slow motion but it really went by so quick.”
While still thinking about where to display the hefty hardware, the King of the Katwalks winner made another quick post-race decision about T-shirts.
“I’m definitely going to post a T-shirt link on Facebook,” said Reynolds. “I think I can sell some T-shirts tonight.”
With a total of 200 entries on the night, also winning features Saturday at Boone were Chase Rudolf in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, 12th starting Mike Smith in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Cole Fenske in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and Austin Gray in the IMCA STARS Mod Lites.
